I heard of
this documentary a while ago, but just started watching it tonight.
And I have wondered about this point for quite a while, and suddenly I have gained a bit of clarity on it..
Do you remember in history class, the description of the build-up to WWII, and how all the factories had to be converted over from building cars and refridgerators to tanks and bullets? So, my question is.. why can't those same factories be converted back today, from building F-237s and all that to building, I don't know, toilets for public schools or something? I mean, I just don't get why we couldn't spend as much government money, and employ just as many people, in industries that actually help and improve the country. Why can't we pay people to build hospitals instead of bombs? Roads instead of aircraft carriers? ... I know there are a lot of American jobs which are tied into the military-industrial complex, I just don't see why the government couldn't use all that same money to employ people to do something else. Just like the New Deal. I mean, we're already spending all that money to employ people in all those industries anyway, but couldn't we spend it all on other industries?
