'Thackeray' has a nice sound to it.

(Which was why I was tempted to purchase Vanity Fair.)

School has been okay, except that I'm already loaded with readings. Martin Chuzzlewit is enough for an overkill. 720 pages worth of tiny font print 真的可以和 Vanity Fair 比. It was rather funny, actually, because Dickens was so sarcastic, but as usual, I cannot take a large cast of characters and the excessive details about every speck of dust on the floor. Sure, I like the idea that Dr. Wagner mentioned that Victorian novelists - Dickens especially - often included so many details because they wanted to novel to be a realistic, coherent world on its own which you could slip into and believe, however, I admittedly have too little patience for details. Every time I read details, I tend to try to 'memorise' these details, wondering which were important, when actually everything is important! After a while, the reading gets better though, so I don't fall asleep while reading the book anymore.

A random note, that I think the term 'triple decker' rocks. (Even if it means epic reading.)

Guin Saga: The Leopard Mask by Kurimoto Kaoru and The Other Wind by Ursula K. Le Guin are here! They happen to arrive on the day when none of the family are going out - I don't have classes on Fridays and my dad just went shopping yesterday - so I guess I have to wait another day to collect the books. In the meantime I have twelve school novels to complete...

Last night, in a half-dozing state, I read Kafka's "The Metamorphosis", and it was all very strange. D: I hate cockroaches; reading about them gives me the goosebumps. It was pretty interesting, though. ...I haven't thought much about it considering right after I finished it I stumbled into the room and fell asleep. X_X

Yesterday, in happiness over being released from class early (I make it sound like a prison) I went to PageOne to get volumes 2 and 3 of the Sakura Taisen manga. In the second volume the bad guys start appearing, and when the one I remembered (and liked, I think) the most appeared, I was very amused because I remembered that in the anime version he had white hair. (Think how many bad guys in Japanese anime/manga/videogames have white hair...) I don't remember how I decided to watch this series when I was young. It started out as a videogame, and I didn't even know. D: (They never translated it into English, though. But they are going to, for the PS2! Except, I don't think that game has the Hanagumi in it. :( ) Hmm. Is Sakura Taisen 'steampunk'? D: I love how they have a bit of everything, from stage performances (the play version of La Dame aux Camelias, among others!), to comedy, to fighting with huge robots (rawr what is the term?!), and to a mix of traditional Japanese clothing with a Tokyo that looks very London-ish! Among all the scientific inventions, they also incorporated some fantasy elements and folklore. Very, very nice combination. I hope PageOne has volume 7 soon. T_T

I want to read E. T. A. Hoffmann's novellum and Fantastic Tales, an anthology of Italian folktales/fantasy stories, edited by Italo Calvino! D:

I'm going to continue reading Martin Chuzzlewit now. It's a very hot day, the sun is bright, and thunder is rumbling still.
