Birthday total

The Pluses:

+Having you guys there

+Having every DJ play the jams that they know I love (so touching!)

+My mom coming. Period. After all these years and with her general appreciation of dance music, club life and partying, she finally came to a rave with me. Yay!

+My mom staying until ~4am because she was having such a great time, in spite of her hesitation in coming and telling me that she probably wouldn't stay long

+Strangers coming up and telling me what an amazing party it was (aka the nod) and wishing me a happy birthday

+The smiles on people's faces when I passed out strawberries at 3am

+Having some friends *seriously* come through on this. Huge, huge thanks to those who helped, especially Ryan, Natalie, Stacey, Jesse, Osby, Jonathan, Dan, Kathleen, Marshal, all the DJs for playing for free, and obviously Andrew.

+Philip seeing my mention of my favorite cake on my myspace interests, then telling me he is baking it for me and bringing it to Sunset tomorrow :D

+Having some crazy old school kids come out of the woodworks unexpectedly. First person I saw when I walked in was Jason, my first love from when I was sixteen. Nutty. Then there was Huggy, Jenny, Wilmer, Dylan...

+Having Jenny come. Period. Her text response when I told her that I was surprised that was coming to a rave: "It's not about what people normally do. It's your special day. You get to pick the activity and then we get to come celebrate that you are in our lives!" *gush gush* I love her so.

+Super mega plus of the night: Having Galen throw on the Jungle Brother's "I'll House You" track for me. Not only was I amazed that he remembered me thanking him for playing it at a party over a year ago, it was also my and Jenny's song from the raver years. Like.. hardcore. Being able to run over to her, grab her, pull her to the front and have us jump around like crazy belting out every lyric was magical. I'm so, so overjoyed that we could share that together. No one could have appreciated it like we did. After listening to that song in the car together for years, texting the lyrics to each other, etc., and given that Jenny hasn't even been to a party for five years.... that was just such a fantastic birthday present. *gush gush*

The Minuses

-People bailing out on helping last minute

-Feeling really sick for a good portion of the party from heat/exhaustion/hunger/dehydration

-Ruining my dress by leaning over to lick the penis off my cake and having my stupid tits get in the way. There was frosting eeeeverywhere. So lame.

-Feeling really, really alone for most of the party, despite having my friends there

-Getting into a fight with Anne and Dana of Gingerbread over the super mega minus of the night (see below)

-Super mega minus of the night: Getting robbed by four guys off the street. They walked in, punched our door guy and stole the cash box. Luckily we had just done a drop not too long before that, but there was already a good chunk of money back in there when they grabbed it. Thankfully our door guy is okay and no one else was hurt. But yeah... definitely lost a huge amount of money on this party. I'm pretty upset. I didn't want to make money. Anything I made was going right back to the people that helped out. I just wanted to get my friends and family together to dance, have a nice night, celebrate my birthday.... and here I am wasted tired, totally in debt now (with no job), behind my MCAT study schedule.... just another classic Alida birthday. I always cry at least once and this year was no exception. It was bound to happen. I really should just stop celebrating.

To top it off, this morning I'm driving Osby to BART and my car visor just falls off and drops in my lap. Then I get locked out and have to sleep in my car. Wake up a half hour later to unload more stuff, exhausted, hungry and in my stained dress.

Sound didn't get unloaded because people bailed out/weren't available. Tried to coordinate today, but things kept falling through. Another day wasted that I was supposed to spend studying for the MCAT. Finally got word from Andrew that we're a go, *right* as my pizza arrived and I was going to finally get to eat for the first time in 24 hours. Lame.

Rush to get the Uhaul, and of course it breaks down on the way to Gingerbread. No more trucks available in the whole city, so as of now the sound is *still* sitting at the space. Guess I'll try again tomorrow.

Then I dropped my cell phone and banged it up. Great.

*****

So not sure how that all totals up, but right now I'm pretty depressed about the whole situation. Hopefully Philip's cake tomorrow will cheer me up. =/

Thanks again to everyone that came out. I hope you all had a good time and made it home safely.
