Today hates me

Does anyone know what to do if a document mysteriously DISAPPEARS from your computer? Like.. seriously disappears... not in recent documents, not coming up in a search, not in the recycling bin... just GONE. I know I saved it multiple times, so I have no idea what happened. Would auto recovery have it or something? This is totally awesome and totally what I needed today. TOTALLY.
