a how d'you do

Sep 16, 2015 19:13

I keep thinking it's Thursday, hence the lack of a What I'm Reading Wednesday post. Instead, you get the "how am I doing" meme I've seen everywhere!

So what have you been up to?
As a teacher in the month of September, I've been quite busy. *G* Aside from teaching, beginning of year screenings, and lesson planning, I've been feeling out how to cook for two on a regular basis. Gotta ensure enough leftovers for lunch! Oh, and I've been plugging away at some original writing.

Major life changes? Same old same old?
Three weeks ago, I moved in with my boyfriend + two roommates I hardly ever see. At the same time, I took a new position (!) at new schools (!!) in a new district (!!!). SO YES, LIFE HAS BEEN QUITE DIFFERENT. Despite the chaos of boxes and bags still around the house, I am quite happy about both of these life changes.

What fandom are you in/do you spend most of your time in?
I'm coming off a summer of job-hunting after years of working a draining job, so I come across as not very fannish anymore. :( I love the X-Men movie franchise, Check, Please!, and musicals by Lin-Manuel Miranda. I watch a lot of things (MCU! Miss Fisher! Brooklyn Nine-Nine!) and then don't read fic for them due to lack of time. OH, AND YULETIDE. YULETIDE IS COMING.

Where do you hang out online?
* I yell about various topics on
alittledust, mostly the MBTA and whatever I'm cooking. My account is locked due to posting the occasional selfie, but you are welcome to follow if I know you or we have mutual friends!
* Facebook
* Instagram, which is a RL-based account. Message me if you want my name!
* Very occasionally, I check
littledust. Tumblr sends my brain into information overload in the way that more text-based sites do not. I do like pretty pictures every now and again, though.

What are you reading?
I just finished 5,000 Words Per Hour: A Guide to Writing Faster, Better & Smarter by Chris Fox. A large, large portion of this book was advice I already knew, but I think it was worth the read! He breaks down the process of building writing stamina into simple exercises and wrote an app to track writing sprint progress. When I'm running the app's timer for a writing sprint, I feel less distracted and less perfectionist. Granted, I'm three whole days into trying out this writing exercise, but it's been nice so far. *G*

What are you watching?
I need to watch the latest episode of Steven Universe! Waiting in the queue: Person of Interest, Over the Garden Wall, and more of The Simpsons. (I was not allowed to watch the last one as a kid.) Also, B99 when it comes back!

What are you making?
For dinner, I made this Greek marinated chicken and some rice 'n' lentils. Delicious!

What are you squeeing about today?
Today, I'm just delighted that my chicken came out well and a passing stranger complimented my outfit. Two days ago, I almost had a heart attack because Check, Please! updated after months of hiatus. Both of my OTPs had moments!!

If you could rope old fandom friends into a new fandom, it would be...
Uhhhhh. I guess it would help if I were less busy, huh? Once I get my YA novel properly outlined, it would be incredible to have an invested audience of more than my mom. *G*

I should really watch/read/dive into _______ and then come talk to you about it!
Is this what fannish thing I should get into? Anything on my to watch list! Also, man, Killjoys and The 100 should be on my list, since they both sound relevant to my interests.

What else is on your mind?
Packing lunch for tomorrow (which is not Friday), making desserts for TWO shindigs on Saturday, and doing enough writing sprints to finish these two things I'm working on by the end of the weekend!
