the epic love story of two dudes with superpowers

Jun 05, 2011 23:15

I had a pretty sweet Sunday, people! There was sunshine, and running, and my Sam/Mercedes fic is almost 2000 words long and there hasn't even been any KISSING yet, gosh. Plus, in less than 48 hours, I will be seeing the Glee concert, then meeting sotto_voice!

ALSO I WENT TO SEE X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. My heart is exploding with love, because X-Men has always been my faaaavorite superhero team ever since reading my dad's old comics, and the first two movies (let's not speak of the rest) made me fall in LOVE with Charles/Erik. Because Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen, how can you not? And this movie was essentially a Charles/Erik extravaganza.

Of course, this means that it has all the usual problems of a movie starring two "straight" white guys, which in turn means that fandom will be giving me many headaches. I just want all of the fic, people.

Also, oh my God this amazing post on Erik AHHHHHH.

PIETA ON THE BEACH PIETA ON THE BEACH PIETA ON THE BEACH PIETA ON THE BEACH PIETA ON THE BEEEEEEEEEEEEEACH. SOUNDS LIKE A DRINK, GOES DOWN LIKE TRUE LOVE.

I spent half of the movie clutching Housemate J and making faces at her because oh my goodness, the love story of the man with major PTSD and the douche-y professor who ~*~understands~*~ him yet totally doesn't understand anything. Erik was a deeply sympathetic character, even more than Charles. THE SHADES OF GRAY: AMAZING. THE SHADES OF GAY: ALSO AMAZING. How many times did they cry over each other? And clutch each other? UGH THE BODY LANGUAGE DESTROYED ME. THEIR DATE ON THE STEPS OF THE LINCOLN MONUMENT HNNNNNNGH.

There was also MYSTIQUE, queen of my heart, light of my eyes. Oh, Raven. *________* I'm too full of squee to process Thoughts on her shape-changing powers and how that factors into being a woman in the early 60's. I hope to unleash them in fic.

So yes, January Jones essentially played Betty Draper with superpowers. Ugh, I just want to read ALL OF THE CHARLES/ERIK and ALL OF THE EMMA/MYSTIQUE because for real, SO MANY THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS on the way the women in this movie were portrayed. Emma and Mystique growing into their utter badass-ness needs to be A Thing. The fabulous CIA agent can play as well. Also Angel! ALL OF THE LADIES.

Now I am going to read the kinkmeme (1stclass_kink) FOREVER.
