I am broadcasting from BLIZZARD TOWN, Internet! It's so pretty outside. Best of all, I did not have to go to work, and instead continued to slowly (so slowly! I'm not even on the G's!) work my way through the Yuletide archive. I also watched some things.
Doctor Who
MARRIED COUPLE INNA TARDIS, EEEEEEEE! Of course Amy and Rory roleplay in sexy fashion. I wish we could have seen a bit more of them, but what we got was great. TARDIS OT3, guys.
Speaking of OT3s, I'm pretty sure Eleven just wanders around looking for couples he can make out travel with. Hee. I loved the timey-wimey twist on A Christmas Carol, minus the whole literal fridging of Abigail. Whatever, Moff, I've got my eye on you, even if you do give us things like fish swimming through the air.
Sherlock
Then I watched all three episodes of Sherlock! And the actors are fabulous, and the mysteries are interesting, and the show is beautiful, and Holmes & Watson are TOTALLY DOING IT in an interestingly fucked up way, and...
I am so over entertaining but flawed shows about "straight" white dudes. (Except, mysteriously, White Collar. Perhaps it is because El and Diana exist.) I mean, I still enjoyed watching the episodes! I will probably read some Holmes/Watson set in this universe! It's just that the older I get, the less likely I am to fangirl hardcore about this type of show. NOT because I am older and wiser than everyone who is in total fangirl love with Sherlock, but because everyone has different buttons they don't like pushed. F'r instance, the running gag of "We're not a couple!" was just... blah. I'm not giving the writers points for acknowledging that gay people exist if they're not going to write about them, ever. I also hated Moriarty "playing gay" an awful lot. Also, Orientalism.
This train of thought is awfully odd, coming from someone who watches Glee. I think I have become the sort of fangirl who just needs to watch ladies on TV, even if the writers get it majorly wrong more often than not. At least I have something to build from as I construct a better narrative in my mind.
TL;DR version: Maybe what I really need to do is write genderswapped Holmes/Watson. QUEER LADY DETECTIVES, AMIRITE?
