Ugh. I exceeded my responsibility quota this week by completing two assignments. And, like, teaching the children or WHATEVER. No, I'm at the point of the school year where it's really exciting to see the wee ones internalizing some social/emotional skills. They also remember that 911 is the emergency number!
I went to see the Dresden Dolls on Wednesday because one of my awesome housemates was too sick to go and gave me the ticket for free. I hadn't bought tickets when they first came out because, well, this corner of the Internet probably knows about all the various ways Amanda Palmer fails at not being a jerk. Anyway, they played the entirety of Yes, Virginia. They sounded good and Brian Viglione is an amazing drummer, but I discovered that having the setlist memorized takes away half the fun of a concert. I finally felt like I was at a live show during the extended version of "Mandy Goes to Med School" and the encores. Also, "Delilah" was beautiful, but it always is.
However, attending the show DID afford me the opportunity to hear the opening band,
Bitter Ruin. I'll just quote the website bio: "Described as 'Amazing noir indie-folk' by Latest7, Brighton’s weekly lifestyle magazine, Bitter Ruin are an explosive, theatrical acoustic duo with grasping lyrics filthy with energy and anger."
Here's the video for one of their songs, "Beware." Thank you to those who have
given me prompts so far! Keep 'em coming! I've been focused on writing papers this week, but I have a few glorious weeks where most of what I have due is reading. \o/
