first off, Happy Easter, everyone!
NO, SRSLY!
so you may or may not know that it's one of my family traditions to have gumbo at the holidays. My dad's mom is from New Orleans so it's something we've always done. So I've finally gotten the family recipe and I'm making it for the first time today... hopefully all goes well and it's as awesome as my grandma's/dad's.
Megan had once inquired why gumbo was just a holiday dish. I idn't really know, but now I do first hand--gumbo's bloody expensive to make! The ingredients ran me quite a bit, and that was even with the shrimp being on sale. But at least I was able to find gumbo filé, which me and my dad couldn't seem to find when they were down here for thanksgiving (he had made it before and brought it down in a crock pot). Luckily i was able to find it at the Taj Teeter (our affectionate name for the Harris Teeter grocery store that's friggin' HUGE.)
Anyway, i'm out this... I'll let you know how it turns out!
