Thanksgiving Travel-Thursday

But first, a random uber-nerdy (from multiple standpoints) realization. 2 years from now, it will be the end of the 2008 college football regular season and the beginning of the 2008-2009 bowl season. At this point, it's not altogether unlikely that the University of South Florida Bulls can make a stellar run, led by then Junior Matt Grothe, and win the Big East conference, sending them to a BCS Bowl. Should that happen, it's also not unlikely that that bowl be the in-state FedEx Orange Bowl in Miami. Consider, also, that to my knowledge, the Alexis I. duPont High School Tiger Marching Band has not yet accepted an invitation for a major parade during the '08-09 school year (we're already doing Rome with the Pope this year, and Rose Bowl in '07-'08). Think of what it would mean if AI AND USF ended up at the Orange Bowl in 2009! It would mean Curtis is headed to South Beach, that's what it'd mean.

An even more dreamy scenario could occur if AI was invited to march in the parade of the BCS National Championship Game that year, and USF was national title bound. It'd still mean Curtis in South Beach, but that one's a good deal harder to swallow.

*ahem* now then. Thursday morning started out lazily, due to getting in late the previous night. I continued to chill in "the hotel" so as to save my breathing from the influence of cats. I also took plenty of allergy drugs with the intent of staving off that problem. Sometime after ample channel surfing it dawned on me that, hey! It's Thanksgiving morning! there are parades on! One thing I didn't know is if the Boscov's parade in Philly would be on TV in Baltimore. Luckily for us, it was. Unfortunately, we tuned in fairly late in the parade. I thought the chances were good for one of two things: We had already missed AI because we were somewhere near the lead-off position of the parade, or we'd be in the finale and escorting Santa Claus. Lucky for us, it was the latter. That's right, you throw a parade in Philly, it's only natural you get a band from DE to escort Santa. Maybe doesn't make the most sense, unless, of course, that band is The Alexis I. duPont High School Tiger Marching Band (gosh, why can't I be humble?)

Anyway, so that afternoon we headed west to Megan's Uncle David and Aunt Nancy's in Marriottsville (Carroll County) for the Thanksgiving dinner and everything. By the time we got there I was feeling none too good, both because the cats had begun to get to me and because I think I OD'd on allergy medication so Iwas feeling kinda nauseated. I made a horrible guest at Dave and Nancy's because I was feeling too bad to be social and had to excuse myself several times to go outside for some fresh air. Later than we should have, we realized hey, maybe I should be at the head of the table near the patio door. I ate dessert from there and then we headed out and hit the road for Claymont to see my fam. I was expecting to have seen Chuckie on this trip, and in fact had spoken to him the week prior, but unfortunately he had an episode earlier that morning and so he was in Gander Hill by the time we got there. IT was earlier in the evening than we had expected to arrive, and we were rolling up to my parents' new house in Claymont, where I had never been (they had moved out of the house where I grew up in Wilmington about 2 years ago, and rented a townhouse elsewhere in Claymont for a year before purchasing the house where they live now) We made the normal Thanksgiving call to my grandma, and it was good to talk to her. She kept talking about how her and my dad were finna set up an iChat session... I was a little baffled by that because I figured she was talking like AIM or something. I know when I launch iChat on my computer, it links into AOL Instant Messenger and imports my buddy list and what-not. So we get down to it. Oh no. Grandma was talking about the whole webcam, talk and see and everything else hookup. So we did it that night, me, dad, James, and Megan on our end, and my grandma and Uncle Bernie on the other end. I'm mad my grandma's more technologically advanced that I am!

Anyway, there was just some hanging out and watching TV and being glad to see my dad and bro again... and then I got to see my mom when she got home from work late that evening before heading to bed.
