Keeping up with the Joneses

So I just stepped up my grown man in a coupla ways. One is that, at long last, your boy got a credit card. This is something I've been looking at for a while; I tend to get offers left and right and so I've been eyeballing them (as has Megan, because I don't know squat about credit cards) to see if one was advantageous, and I found a pretty decent one. So I now own a CapitalOne MasterCard with a pretty beach scene on it. My plan is to use it sparingly, and really only on stuff I woulda bought yestserday, so I can pay it of immediately and build myself some credit of which I currently have none.

And my first official purchase: an iPod. Yes, in a few short days I will be the owner of a black, 60 gig iPod whose inscription is a single letter C. So you may be saying yourself, how is that getting your grown man on? Every high school kid who has access to mommy and daddy's credit card has an iPod! That may be true, but in addition to its obvious uses, I think I'm going to get some real professional functionality out of my iPod. See, I've never been one to get a PDA. I figure I'd get just as much use out of it as I typically do a planner, which is pretty much none at all. But an iPod, I'll certainly use for the regular reason (music and video at my fingertips!) but in addition to that, I intend to use it for presentations and such. See, I tend to present at professional conferences (I did two in the past year and have two lined up--NACA regionals and nationals--for which i've been accepted for the upcoming year) and I don't have a laptop I can bring around to them, but I got the a/v cable so I have the ability to hook up, so with a bit of tweaking (I'll figure it all out once I've got it) I'll be able to essentially run a powerpoint-type presentation from the iPod. I might have to step into the podcast game too. So yeah, I'd say I'm big boying it.

In other news since last update: I stepped up my grill game a bit, knocking out some salmon on the grill on Labor Day... this was in addition to some burgers, dogs, and some BBQ marinated chicken that I think turned out really nicely. Plus I had a full drink complement with sangria, lemonade, and kool-aid (red). Good times, except it was just me and Megan... I invited some folk from work who moved to a complex right near us, but they never showed.

Over the past week at work, I've been trying to make big things happen. If all goes as I'd like, I'm bringing spirit back (them other schools don't know how to act). I've had meetings with athletics to do a Midnight Madness type of event with men's basketball, and things seem to be looking up.

On another tip, I was disenchanted in that I'm putting together a team competition aspect for this year's FallFest (homecoming). The deadline was this past Friday at the end of the day, and I had a grand total of zero entries. I'm also doing the court competition, and had 3 king and 1 queen entries as of the Friday deadline. So I'm extending both deadlines, but the fact that there was so little interest while I'm trying to make some spirited shit happen was disappointing. My damn parade is still taking place though!

This weekend I went to Get Down!Town, a big downtown festival in G'boro designed to welcome back college students. The highlight for me was getting ot get Whyld Peach, who are the backing band for Outkast. They did the damn thing! Again though, I was there by my damn self. I wish I had more folk here in the Boro.

And of course, plenty of football. My Bulls scared me with a near-loss to FIU. They really better step their game up, cuz I'm not ready to lose to Mickey Mouse U. next weekend.

football, ipod, greensboro, credit card, fallfest, work, sports
