Hogan Knows Best is actually a quite good show. I postulate there are two reasons for this. One is that Hulk Hogan seems to be a pretty genuine good guy. The other is that Hogan in pretty much any situation but a wrestling ring is so incongruous it's hilarious.
I'm still slightly on the fence, but I have, for the most part ruled against going up to Delaware for the AI Band reunion. Assuming I don't make it, it hurts the heart. On the face value, it would have been great to get back for a reunion of sorts, celebrate my old band director's 30th anniversary, see some old friends, and get back home to Delaware all in one. But at a deeper level, this was going to be a pilgimage back to my band dork roots. For years and years now, I've been a band dork without a band. It's been about 3 years since I've so much as picked up a pair of cymbals or strapped up a snare. It's been about 7--count 'em seven--since I've legitimately marched in a viable organization. I haven't even been in the element for years now, since my pep band days. The closest has been DCI shows, pregames and halftime shows, and shooting the band dork shit with Ryan and whoever else I could catch from time to time. I am quite literally a has-been, wannabe, old-timer, monday morning drum major. It would be great to make the trip back, get a few minutes of alumni band on, and be back in the place that made me, well, the dork I am.
But realistically, I'm looking 200 bills minimum to get up there for that weekend, which is a week and a half away. So I'm balancing financial viability (I can afford it, but there goes my spare spending cash--and half an ipod--in one pop) with my own dorkdom. We'll see what wins, but given also the time factor, I may be sitting here in Greensboro weekend after next.
That being said, it may be a kick in the pants to make me realize I need to put some fire under my plan to be involved once more. But I also realize one of the reasons I'm a dork is because to this day one of the greatest things I've been involved in is the Alexis I. duPont High School Tiger Marching Band. I guess it's like winning the little league world series or a national championship in college or something. By no way am I suggesting that I peaked in high school, but still, an experience like that is hard to forget. So here I am, nearly 7 years after high school graduation, obsessing over my high school band. I guess that shit sticks.
Anywaty, it's here I sign off from perhaps one of the dorkiest posts I've made. Holla
