I've been having a 24 hour period you could write a pamphlet about, at least to the degree that I'm getting out and about in what Greensboro has to offer. Last night, for St. Patrick's Day, we were down at Natty Greene's Brewery, a historic brew pub named for Nathaniel Greene, hero of the American Revolution and city namesake, in downtown Greensboro. There were actually reenactors hanging out and enjoying a tankard of ale when we got there. It was there that we celebrated the holiday among Irish music and people getting enthusiastic over basketball, including a North Carolina team (State). Today, it was to the Greensboro Coliseum for the NCAA tournament, mostly just to poke around--didn't go to any of the games but did go to FanFest and get a program. From there, it was back up north to head to a reenactment of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, a Revolutionary War campaign that, while it resulted in a loss for the Continental Army, was a victory in the damage it inflicted upon England's military. The event also included a revolutionary fair of sorts, with quite a few cool things available. We're actually going back tomorrow for something else they have going on (this is the anniversary of the battle so there are all sorts of events and activities). Add that to downtown G'boro and the museum with my mom last weekend and the premiere of our indoor football team next weekend, and we're the poster children for th CVB!
I was dressed for the day's activities too--red white and blue with my band dork shirt on (see icon) and a Sixers hat (76ers--American Revolution AND basketball--get it?) The only downfall was that I had on my blue and white jacket and so people at the Coliseum might have thought I was pro-Dook. Speaking of apparel, similar to how people wear medieval and every kind of other gear to renaissance festivals, people wear whatever ar gear to reenactments. Which means there were alot of confederate flags around. Stupid fuckin' rebs.
wow, props to Wichita State... maybe the Valley IS the real deal. It amuses me to know end that the official handsign of the Wichita State Shockers (as done by their cheerleaders) closely approximates, well, the shocker. I think there needs to be a headline somewhere that reads "Shockers leave two in the stink on the way to Sweet 16" Oh, aren't I clever.
well, back to basketball, and some dinner and beer as well.
Oh, and if you ever wanted to see a marked man, check out:
Like I needed another reason to hate the Cowboys (or TO, for that matter)
