Scotland Yard had got the artefact. Emily never mentioned stealing, but Alice knew what must be done.
Getting in wasn't difficult. First she managed to give the illusion she was being escorted, but to use her detecting device, she had to keep to shadows. She was a good shadow. Locating the artefact - in a desk drawer! as if they were asking her to steal it - she slipped it into her pocket, then stepped out confidently among the workers, unobserved in plain sight.
She grinned, marveling at her luck: a job that kept her fed and let her have fun.
