I will admit, I haven't listened to MIYAVI since I was around 18 years old... which was around 5 years ago. x_x Wow. Anyways, I will agree with everyone and say YES, he has definitely changed. However, he's still such an amazing guitarist/lyricist/composer/entertainer. He's still freaking crazy. Haha. So, I'm really loving this new album. It still has some of MIYAVI's signature playing techniques (like his great acoustic guitar), along with some fresh new styles of music. :) Plus, he has never looked so good. DAYUM. Oh, and did I mention it's almost all in English?! :O

• The first song on the album, Justice, was a perfect choice to start off this new album. The acoustic guitar is very prominent in this song, along with a hard, catchy beat. This is one of my favorite songs on the album. It just reminds me SO much of 自己愛、自画自賛、自意識過剰 from way back in 2006. Good guitar. Good stuff. The next track, Horizon, is my favorite on the album. ^^ This song is incredible. I personally love songs that have really great, climactic choruses... which this one definitely has. This one also still has MIYAVI's guitar, but it's slightly less prominent. The song is more focused on the beat, which is wonderful. ^^
Chase It starts off sounding quite poppy. You can tap your feet and just start bouncing around to this song. XD But MIYAVI's gritty, unique vocals bring the song back to rock. I also enjoy this song, it's just as catchy as the previous two, but slightly less strong. Secret is the dirty song on the album. hahaha. It's my least favorite, though... I just can't get into this song. It isn't catchy, the melody is just strange and a little messy, it's just... meh. I was quite surprised this was a single for the album. Just odd.
Cry Like This... ahh, I just love this song! When it first started off with the somewhat random plucks of guitar, I was like "ehhhh..." BUT, as soon as the song actually started, I was instantly hooked. Much like Horizon, this song also has an excellent chorus. Unlike the exploding chorus like in Horizon, however, this one smoothly transitions from verse to chorus, but still really stands out. <3
Anyone that knows me knows I'm a huge sucker for ballads. Yeah... so Guard You is one of my very favorites on the album. This is also one of the only tracks on the album where MIYAVI finally sings some Japanese. I really appreciated that. I mean, I'm glad he saved the Japanese for such a beautiful song. It really fits well with the whole vibe. This song also has probably the best lyrics on the entire album, in my opinion. This is the way to guard you: to be far away from you." So heartbreaking. T^T *sniffle*
As you can probably guess from the title, No One Knows My Name (Slap It) is yet another great fast-paced guitar track. Typical MIYAVI style. It transitions really nicely from really fast to slow and steady. Hell No is the "rebel" song of the album. XD Only around 2 minutes long, this is one of the weaker songs on the album, but still quite good. Ahead of the Light is next, and it was one of the singles from the album. The first time I heard this track, I just was not a fan. But it slowly began to grow on me. It still isn't a FAVORITE, but I definitely appreciate it for what it is now. I never skip it when it comes on, so... yep. ^^;
Free World is such a great ending to this album. After my first listen, it was one of the ones that stuck out to me the most. Very beautiful and catchy at the same time. This is one of the most melodic songs on the album, as well. <3 Overall, this was quite a breath of fresh air for me as a MIYAVI fan. True, I had not listened to him in quite a long time, but it was great to come back and see how much he has evolved. :) The only reason I didn't give this album a perfect score is because 1- "Secret". Bleh. And 2- at times, it can sound a bit repetitive. But not horribly. ;)
Overall Rating: 9/10
Favorite Tracks: Justice, Horizon, Guard You, Free World
