My mom and brother and I all got sick a little over two weeks ago with what was probably some sort of flu. Then my dad got sick a little while after the three of us had gotten better. The most obvious symptom was tons of coughing; it seemed like he just coughed all the time. He stayed home from work quite a bit (out of the ordinary for him), and just tried to sleep whenever he could.
This morning, I've been told, his heart was racing after a sleepless night, and he told my mom to take him to the hospital. Apparently, this whole time, his heart hasn't been beating properly, which caused fluid to accumulate in his lungs, which caused the coughing. He's apparently doing all right now, they've stabilized him, and my mom sounded like she was in good spirits when I talked to her on the phone. She was with my dad, and if she's not worried, I'm not worried.
He really should have gone to the doctor much sooner! I should have said something, but I didn't. The fact is, he's endured this for over a week, waiting for it to go away on its own. I'm glad his body convinced him before things got too dire. (I think I'm okay too.)
