This coming Monday (Dec. 5th) starts Week 1 of a 12-week half marathon training plan with the target race of the GHS Half Marathon on Saturday, February 25th. I'm not quite set on my goals for this race yet, but I thought I'd talk through a few options.
Baseline Goal: Get back to pre-pregnancy "comfortable" half time of 1:50 or better.
I was on track to do this for the Shamrock Half last March, but my efforts were thrwarted by food poisoning/stomach virus on race morning and horrendous race conditions (40s and driving rain storm). I didn't have another chance / didn't have the fortitude to shoot for another goal race very soon after that, so I've been just coasting along since then pretty much.
Stretch Goal: Half Marathon PR (current PR 1:44:10)
Yeah, this is a true stretch. At that time I was in the best shape of my life, having completed a half Iron Man race just about 6 weeks before that race (Rock 'n' Roll Savannah). I was also on my way to my full marathon PR in Hilton Head that following February. So yeah... I've got some work to do.
However...
Based on my recent 8k time, the Runner's World
race time predictor says:
Interesting.
So... that's what I'm working with right now. I've got my training calendar laid out, my training paces calculated, and my new pair of shoes ready to roll.
Bring. It. On.
