games, fun, and play dates

I was talking to a good friend earlier this evening, and I commented on how now that we're 'grown up,' it's much harder to invite someone over to come and play. No set agenda, except perhaps, play with clay, or a puzzle, or a new board game, or just sit and talk. These days, we need to *do* things. We go somewhere, or see something exciting, or go to this study group or that lecture. Why can't we just be together for the sake of being together? It seemed perfectly acceptable when we were 5...I'm not quite sure at what age it got fazed out. Are we less creative or less comfortable with silence or just so busy that we feel like we have to have something planned?

Upon leaving work I felt like playing chess, and I was reminded about my time in England where one could get a hot chocolate, sit at a comfy chair in Starbucks, and proceed to delve into a book for the entire afternoon.

I'm content to have a schedule and have places to go on various dates and times, but sometimes...I wish that like when we go spend time with Jesus and just sit with Him, that we could also just sit with a friend.
