Part of what's taking so much time in prep for the move-in is how my own project completion timeline works. I like to be really thorough. This manifests itself in sometimes annoying ways; Saturday's project of removing the goofy space-inefficient wire shelf system in the master bedroom closet and replacing it with top-and-bottom hanging rods also ( Read more... )

Hey wow! My weekend was spent working on our Ikea wardrobe! Every inch of my body hurts! A lot!

Ha! Did you get a PAX? Right now I'm trying to figure out how to divide and use all of the interior space.

Yep! We have a whole wall, about 15 feet or so I think, with Pax in white with Birkeland glass doors. I built the bridge thing where it goes over the bed and has wardrobes on either side. Right now I am finishing up wiring all the lights inside and above to work with external switches. Staci went to Ikea yesterday and bought a ton of the "guts," little wire baskets, shelves, trouser hangers, etc. etc. etc. Fun fun!

Wow, my project is puny compared to that. We have less than half that amount of wall space to cover, and probably a lot fewer lights to wire. Now I know who to call when we run into a problem, thanks. ;)

Sheesh. That is only one side of the room! Once the bed is moved to under the bridge thing, there is the opposite wall to start in on. There is a window on that wall so it will have the same two wardrobes on either side of the window with the smaller cabinets underneath the window instead of up in the air. Complementary. Yin/Yang. You know...
Seriously though, you can call if you run into a problem, but I really doubt you will. Ikea has made everything pretty simple to do. Except for the wiring, all the install is easy. The wiring, because I wanted switches for the lights up on top shining down, is a little more to tackle. I bought switches at Home Deepo and boxes that sort of sit on the outside of the wardrobe. All the wire will be hidden inside, but short of hiring an electrician to massively re-wire the upstairs, I did not see an alternative... Ugh. I will be glad when it is done. I may even post a pic or two!
