I tried for several minutes to smith a witty subject line consisting of a portmanteau of blog and constipation in order to communicate the difficulty I'm having lately in writing. But I failed ... or at least none really sounded, um, very appetizing. So I went instead for a Shatnerian reference. Which I think fails as well. Whatever.

I've been using Ubuntu for a while now.
I find it pretty easy.
What was your biggest problem with it? The user interface, or periphereals?

That I have no idea how an operating system operates.

Did you ever actually get your hands on an Ubuntu machine?
It's not really something you can just read about... you kinda just have to dive in and get (virtually) dirty.

I didn't ... but honestly I don't even have the basic skillz to know what to do with it.

Well... the thing about user friendly Linux distros, is that they basically act an awful lot like a Windows machine until you really start digging below the surface. There's still a desktop, and little icons that you click on to launch things and stuff.

I'd like to play with Ubuntu too (hee). Maybe I'll convert this machine when I get my new laptop. The biggest drag about linux as a home OS, is that it can be difficult to find drivers for all your peripheral devices. That makes it kinda sucky.

But if I ever do end up with a laptop running Ubuntu (or any other flavor of Linux), I'll totally let you play with it some.

I have explained to many people with very little computer skills how to use ubuntu, in about ten minutes
Actually, if I left you alone with an ubuntu machine, you could figure it out

If an operating system is operating correctly, you shouldn't even notice it operating.

Well, you could say the same thing about car engines, and I would still have exactly the same skill in building one. :)
