36 miles

Did it in exactly 2.5 hours.

I realize it wasn't a race, but still, I can't help but feel proud of myself for completing the route at all, much less doing it in a faster time than I expected. I pushed myself the entire way, and because of the early start time (I was pedaling by 6:35am), I was able to avoid a lot of the crowds and had many ( Read more... )

See? At that clip, I definitely wouldn't have been able to keep up. At least I don't think I would have. Maybe next year when I'm more slimmer and more dialed in. But if I had been there, I could have saved you. Sounds like you ended up ok though. :)

When biking anywhere, I wear a Camelbak Transalp backpack (which I've had for 10 years easy) that is holding...

3L of water in a new Omega reservoir
a Genuine Innovations Ultraflate Plus (with spare 2 or 3 CO2 canisters)
a Rema TipTop patch kit
a Specialized replacement tube
Cateye front light and rear flasher (just in case I'm out after dark)
and a Specialized E.M.T. Comp tool

I also throw in a few power bars, some saline solution, a cell phone, an ipod, and various bits.

I forgot to mention the kick ass bike pump that I also carry just in case the Ultraflate goes down, or I need to pump the shocks up.

Dude, I see the problem now. You're so weighed down with gear that you can't ride for more than about 3 miles before you're exhausted. ;)

Wow, at least I wasn't stranded and depending on the kindness of strangers.

"Oooh, but no, not a smackdown."

;D

Right on.

I miss my bike SO badly. I think I need to finish grieving the old one before I can get something else. I bought it with money I inherited from a very beloved grandfather and it meant more than just a BIKE would.

And, I rode it in the very first Bridge Pedal.

So, maybe next year. I think I'm ready.

Nice story. I've had similar experiences from both sides.

If it's not too painful to recount, what happened to the bike?
