the craziness of my life

So, as usual it has been way to long since I've posted anything here.  Last time I posted was the week of my prelims.  So much has changed between now and then.

First things first.  I failed those damned prelim tests.  So, I will not be earning a PhD at the University of Texas.  If I get my butt in gear, I will be graduating in May with my Master's.  However, this means I need a new career.  I have applied for a professorship at at Concordia University.  I have also applied for the Texas Teaching Fellows which is a alternative teacher certification program.  I also intend to apply for a couple of positions with the Applied Research Lab which is part of the UT system.  I might eventually try to go back for a PhD somewhere, but I need some time off before I pursue that.

However, I've been keeping myself busy with church retreats.  I went on one this past weekend with the University Catholic Center at UT.  But I'm really really excited because the Diocese of Austin has decided to bring back a retreat that I was a part of as an undergrad.  It's been dead for 5 years, but they are letting us bring it back.  It's really exciting, but we only have 5 weeks to get it all together.  Our first meeting was last night, but I couldn't go because...

because Chris was feeling chest pains so we went to the emergency room to get it checked out.  We spent 7 hours and $1000 to find out that there is nothing seriously wrong with his heart (thank God), but that they don't know what caused it and he should 1) take medication that we can't afford and 2) go visit a cardiologist that we can't afford.  I'm not sure what we're going to do, but Chris has a new lease on life and is quitting smoking (1 week today), eating better exercising and job hunting!

Well, time for office hours...
