Word count: 475.

They were being fed three meals a day. The children were encouraged to play and participate in activities. Star always thought of her family. She wondered where they were. The first couple days at the camp were a blur to Star. They had her on medicine to keep the pain down from her head energy.

Star was at a refugee camp for children who had not been placed back with their families. There were 100 children at this camp and about half that number of staff working 24-7 making sure that the children were taken care of. They cooked for us; made sure our clothes were washed and dried; and that we were safe.

Star had been here for two weeks. They said her family were not to be found, but they told her that they were not found in or around the house that Star and her family had lived in for Star’s short life. They were hoping that Star’s parents and little sister Taylor were in another one of the camps and would be united with them soon like some of the other children and families. The searchers had found some house’s where no one but a young child was alive. These children would hopefully be placed with a kind, loving family.

Star was hoping that her family would come for her. She wanted to see her Mom, Dad and Taylor again; she hoped that they would come soon.

The tornado hit our little town on a late Saturday afternoon. There was a lot of damage from the storm. Star’s house was one of very few that had survived according to the workers at the camp.

Now it was two weeks after the storm on a Saturday morning. Star was sitting with a girl about her same age. They both were wearing red shorts and red shirts. These were some of the donated clothes. Each child had received a set of clothes when they arrived from the bags of donated clothes sent in by very nice people. Star had a yellow outfit, the red outfit she was wearing now and a blue outfit. She liked all three of these outfits.

Her parents and Taylor arrived on the next Monday. They had been stationed in a camp on the other side of two towns. They had been contacting every camp trying to find Star. They were relieved to find Star doing well.

Stars family was located in a refugee camp for families. Their house was deemed unstable and her family stayed in the camp another week before being placed in housing. They saved a few belongings from the house, but that was it. The family hopes to rebuild in the future, and they did. The new house was bigger, sturdier and safer than the one they had before.
