The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Last night, coming home from an evening of drinks with friends, I found myself walking in 19°F (-7.2°C) degree weather in the wind. Thanks to New York parking rules, it involved walking under the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway where my car is often parked. i heard that brutal wind through my window last night and felt awful for anyone who had to be outside during it.

a lot of us would have considered doing something in your situation-- but not many of us would have walked back to the spot with a blanket. the world needs more men who cross the line from thought to action.

(this totally overshadows my good deed of the day: giving a free metrocard swipe to an old lady who somehow used up her entire card while trying unsuccessfully to pass the turnstiles)

to be perfectly honest, I did it because Nicole suggested I should. And the more I thought about it the more guilty I felt. I had no idea why I was going, other than I felt like I could either be part of the problem or part of the solution. I had no idea if he'd be there, if he'd yell at me more or what. He wasn't there, and honestly I wasn't going to stand around and wait for him (or look for him :( ) but I did bring the blanket to give to him, so I left it.

There were no signs of him or the blankets this morning.

i live in the south an hour away from where hurricane katrina wiped out new orleans...i have worked with the evacuees for over a year now and it is because of people like you that they have the strength to go on...
