Heidi! I did it! I successfully transferred snow from Chicago to Eugene! We started having a snow storm of Friday, and I was like, "No no, snow, we don't need you here right now...you MUST be sent to Eugene." And BAM - snow in Eugene. Rock on.

We went to Toledo this weekend to pick up a futon and lazyboy chair from my cousin. She and her husband are getting new furniture and we've been in desperate need for something couch-ish to sit on for...forever. That was fun, because I got to hang with my family and get free furniture, but we had SO many issues with U-Haul. We booked a trailer through U-Haul last week, and they called us and set up a time and place to pick up the trailer (Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.). Then they called again to confirm of Friday. Now, on Sunday morning at 9:45 (15 minutes before we were supposed to pick it up), U-Haul called and was like, "Oh, WHOOPS, too bad, actually, we don't have a trailer for you. The next closest place with a trailer is in Monroe, Michigan" (over an hour away). I just wanted to ask, "ok, so what is the point of making a reservation and down payment again? Because I don't think we're on the same page here..." Anyways, my aunt was like, "Beth, give me the phone," and she demanded something happen and something happen NOW. She proceeded to tell them the situation - that this had been planned for over a month, that I had taken the weekend off work without pay, we had driven 5 HOURS one-way to get to Toledo to pick up furniture, that we had made a reservation like we should have, and that there is NO way we were leaving without a trailer because we had set up an entire weekend to do this (all true). In the end, someone from U-Haul drove the trailer down to Toledo for us (we weren't going to go an extra hour and a half out of our way when we had a 5 hour drive home!), and we got a SMALL discout on the trailer (which is bullshit, because at one point we had demanded we get it at half price and they agreed, but when we picked it up they went "oh, whoops, sorry, can't do that"), AND we had a trailer waaay bigger than we had ordered, which they thought was a good thing, but when you're pulling a U-Haul trailer with a Honda Civic just for a futon and lazyboy, bigger is NOT better (all which we had told them OVER and over). This is just the shortened version too...all of the crap we went through would take forever to write. In the end, we DID get our trailer (5 hours later than we were supposed to), and we got our furniture and drove home, getting here past dark. We WOULD have had Pat's friend help us unload, but since we were back so late, he couldn't come. Whatever. All of it was like a bad movie. But, we have a very comfortable futon and lazy boy chair in our living room, and I guess in the end it was all worth it.

Everything else is going pretty well I guess. I've been having some weird anxiety issues, which I think I have mostly figured out. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I am literally outside for a total of about 5 minutes a day. It's been so cold here (it was in the negatives for about a week straight and below freezing for all of January), that the only time anyone ever goes outside is to go to their car and then back inside. So my typical day consisted of me getting up, showering, etc., getting in my car, going to work (which is literally a wine cellar...it's underground, so I don't see the sunlight (or lack of) at all since we don't have any windows), going back to my car after work, driving home, making dinner, and then hanging out inside for the rest of the evening. And it sucks because we have these big sliding glass doors in our living room, and SO much cold air comes in through the glass that we have to keep the blinds closed in order to keep it warm. So I pretty much live in a cave between the wine cellar and home. And I think I'm just not used to that, because in Oregon, even if it's raining, it's not too miserable to be outside, and I would end up being outside a lot going to and from classes and stuff.

Also, it it amazingly hard to make friends in a new state.

Anyways, that's pretty much it. My family all told me I should write a letter to U-Haul. So since I have the day off, maybe I'll clean up the apartment and then head over to Starbucks (which always is warm and has big windows!) with my computer and see if I'm inspired. It couldn't hurt. Maybe they'll refund our money. =)
