first post of 2013!

Happy New Year's everyone! I hope everyone's went well. Mine was spent at a newly-opened beer bar with a few of my friends, and it was lovely despite me spilling champagne all over some poor family. We walked all the way to another bar, and then home, and then spent a leisurely day doing nothing. We had a few days off and then had to work on Friday; technically everyone had to work from Friday-Friday, but we at City Weekend most emphatically did not. It made for an awkward start to the work cycle, but it did mean we got to, you know, rest.

I can't really remember everything I did, of course. Rode the new subway to Joy City Chaoyang with Natalie, went to a going-away for Daniel, spent time at Sam's apartment watching documentaries and eating soup... though I was already doing that a lot since her housemates went away for the holidays. They're back now and I have spent far less time at her apartment, which must mean it's actually time to get back to work.

This last week at work was a little horrific, but I thought it was just going to be because of our boss being back. That wasn't so bad, but what did make it annoying was the launch of our new site. I don't mind the new design, or the changes, but what I do hate is that they made it live without testing it. There were bugs on day one that anyone could have found from a cursory look around the site. And while I'm not invested in becoming a web developer, one year working for one means I know that you have to test the shit out of a website before it goes live. It was just a little unprofessional and makes us all look like idiots. But whatever, it's mostly working now and wasn't as much of a headache as the time we updated the back end...

I don't think I mentioned this, but I also started giving OK Cupid a go last month. It's been okay, I've chatted with some cool guys and met a couple, but it's tough, you know? Beijing's a tough city to find anyone, and while it's been good to open my horizons and find different people, the same problems persist: nobody's here long-term and English teachers abound. We'll see, we'll see. I don't want to talk too much about this because, well, feels, it's all awkward, so if something important comes up I'll let you all know. ;)

In general I'm focusing on work lately, mostly because I have some bizarre idea that if I get everything done quicker I can go on holidays quicker. This is not even close to being true, so I have to chill out and stop rushing because rushing work won't make time go faster. Still, I would like to be more organized in general with work, and getting as much of the unpredictable stuff out of the way before I go would be good for my mental health.

In apartment news, I am going to spend next Sunday clearing out my room. My housemate and I are going to switch rooms in order to make this "Alex needs a double bed" thing happen, so I'm going to do some serious minimalizing of my stash of crap. I'm sure this is something that everyone has had happen to them, but when I was little, the way my parents got me to clean is that they had this huge basket and would just start putting things in it. "If you don't take it out and put it away it goes in the bin." I just need someone to do that for me, and Natalie has volunteered, thank goodness. It should be fun.

And finally, in fandom news, I'm trying to keep up again. After reading topazera's post about her followed idols, I realized how little I know about what happened with Arashi this year. So I've added aramatheydidnt's arashi tag back to my friends list, and I'll be keeping up with their regular shows as best I can (definitely VS if not the others) and I set myself a reminder to check out Aiba's new show even though, as with the last one, I doubt I'll make it through the first episode without wanting to turn it off. :( I'm also writing more, and I sincerely promise to hit bingo on my rainbowfilling prompt card before I go on holidays.

But finally, one of the most fun things to come out of these last two weeks is I got myself a Totoro onesie. It's the softest thing ever, and it's delightful to wear around the house and to bed. It's actually helped me get out of bed in the morning as it means the outside world isn't quite as cold as it otherwise is. It's silly, and probably the most random spending of ¥130 ever, but it's been a great purchase.

To wrap up, 26 DAYS BEFORE MY HOLIDAY I CANNOT BE MORE EXCITED AAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
