The city of Cleveland recently installed red light cameras at select intersections downtown (mostly in poor neighborhoods, but that's a whole other entry) meant to catch people who run red lights. But one person writes in with this tibit:
"It will not change the way I drive at all. Until the city of Cleveland becomes safer, I will go through the lights if it's a night, and I will fight the ticket left and right."
Is this not totally ignorant? I suppose no one drives at night now? I've had to take my sister to the bus station at 3:30 a.m. and here's this idiot talking about casually running red lights. Maybe he missed the idea that this could happen, but while this individual is treating red lights as if they were green, there's someone else's light that really is green, and they will be preceding as usual. You will be t-boned, or they will t-bone you, resulting in damage to your car, their car and in all likelihood some degree of bodily harm for either of you. And it will be YOUR fault. I hope you have both good insurance and a good lawyer, because a ticket will be the LEAST of your worries then.
Dumb, dumb, dumb.
