Remus knows that he isn’t to blame, but the world is breaking down around him anyway. Nothing seems to be making sense any longer, and wherever he looks he can see Sirius grinning back at him, beckoning to join him for another prank. However reality is different and all there is a quiet corridor, the laughter long died hours ago. He knows that it is time to return back to the common room, to join the others and pretend that nothing has happened.
Still there is too much to cope with, and before he notices of what is really happening, he can feel himself crumbling. For the first time ever Remus Lupin feels his walls breaking, tears running down his cheeks like an endless river and his hands trembling, fingers clenching into his robes. The tears don’t seem to want to stop and the longer they flow the more broken he feels, not knowing how he is supposed to bring this to an end. Suddenly everything feels so unimportant and all he wants is to curl up somewhere and die, making jumping from the Astronomy tower suddenly seem the best idea in the world.
Remus doesn’t get that far though, tensing up suddenly as he hears the quiet echo of voices coming up the corridor. Taking in a deep breath, and wiping away the irritating tears, he finally makes his way back to the common room. His body feels cold, stone cold, feeling as if nothing can touch him. Telling himself over and over again that everything will be alright and that no one would ever find out of what had just happened.
When he has finally reached his destination, he knows nevertheless that those tears will come again, and that some day he will have to give in to the desperation and ask for the help he desperately needs. For now however, he was going to keep standing and cope with the world in his own way.
