Disclaimer: I don’t own anything of this, all of these characters belong to the wonderful JK Rowling, I only own the plot.
Remus had been nearly over 5 years and a half at Hogwarts, and until now had managed to keep his condition somehow a secret. However small concern remained scared that his friends that he had earned over the last few years were going to be lost once they would find out of what he really was. Remus had had this nightmare over and over again; the dream where he had torn his friends into shreds, pieces so small that it was even impossible to recognize of what part had belonged to whom.
Even now, as he was lying in the infirmary bed with the moon shining through the window, Remus reminded himself of what he really was and that he didn’t really deserve to be here at Hogwarts. Tears found their way in to Remus’s eyes and started to run down his cheeks, curling instinctively up under the blanket as if to hide himself.
He had felt so left out lately, as if his friends were hiding something from him. Normally they never kept secrets from each other and Remus didn’t really know how to deal it, even if he knew that he was after all hiding the biggest and darkest secret of all. Remus was just about to pull the blanket over his head as he felt suddenly a hand on his shoulder. No one ever visited him here, after all no one knew that he was here. Turning slowly around, his eyes widened in surprise as he saw Sirius standing at his bedside, with a quite serious expression, something that was quite rarely seen.
“Sirius… what are you doing here?” Remus asked in confusion attempting to sit up in bed only to be gently pushed down again. Not really knowing of what to say for the moment, Remus just watched Sirius with a stunned expression, shifting slightly under the other man’s gaze, making some space as Sirius sat down on the edge of his bed.
“Sirius,” Remus started once more as he finally found his voice again only to be immediately silenced by a short and dismissive gesture of Sirius’s hand.
“Why didn’t you tell us Remmie? Did you really think that we would hate you?” Sirius asked and Remus had to swallow a sudden lump down his throat as he heard even Sirius’s own voice shaking, seemingly on the verge of control.
“Just because you’re a werewolf doesn’t mean that we don’t want you as a friend. Merlin Remus,” Sirius continued, stopping midway sentence and before Remus could react he found himself suddenly hugged tightly by his black-haired friend.
“How long… I mean how long do you know already?” Remus asked quietly not daring but also not wanting to pull out of the hug.
“For three years,” Remus heard Sirius admit making himself pull back in shock. His mouth opened as if to ask something, only to close again, letting him have a good resemblance with a gaping fish for a moment.
“We…. James, Peter and I thought you would come on your own. But now that we’ve finally succeeded, I thought time to tell you that we know,” Sirius replied, and Remus found himself once more alone in his bed, a feeling of dread creeping up in him. Sirius was talking too much in riddles for his liking, too difficult to solve for Remus’s tired mind right now.
“What did you do?” Remus asked cautiously not really in the mood to get Sirius out of trouble again, something that seemed to have grown to be his job in the last year. Soon enough Remus got his answer, as abruptly a black grim stood at his bedside looking up at him with large brown puppy eyes.
“I don’t know what to say…” Remus said feeling slightly light headed. Putting his hand on his forehead, Remus took some steady breaths only back at Sirius as he felt Sirius’s hand once again on his shoulder.
“Now you don’t have be alone anymore during the moon. We made sure of it, werewolves can’t infect animals, even if you give us a scratch, we’ll be safe. You won’t be alone anymore Remus, I’ll make sure of that. Now rest, we can talk tomorrow,” at those Remus words found himself crying in sheer happiness, at the same time Sirius’s words seemed to have quite an effect on him and immediately found exhaustion once more catch up with him. The last thing he noticed was Sirius’s hand stroking gently through his hair while he was slipping in to the first dreamless sleep since weeks.
