Remus had always thought that he’d be the one of the Marauders, who would end up being a bachelor until the end of his life. That he would be living somewhere in a small cottage, tending to his life and not having to worry about anyone else but himself. Of course things never go as Remus expects them to, not when having Marauders as friends, who after finding out that he was gay, tried to couple him up with anything male that had two legs. Apparently James didn’t want for him to end up being lonely, while Sirius just tagged along to the plans and nodded occasionally to any new ideas that James came up with. So Remus played along, wanting to placate his friends, feeling somewhat grateful of how worried they were about his well being.

However there was a small thing that he didn’t dare to tell them, something that scared him more than anything else ever did. It was a secret that he had carried along with him since he had found out that he’d rather like flat chests and not round breasts, it was that he had fallen in love with Sirius Black and was scared that if he’d ever voice it out loud, that he would lose everything that he had build up in the last years. So he kept quiet about it, just smiling when James arranged him another date, wishing that James would give up and Remus could just return to his dreams about what could be but never would.

So Remus was more than surprised when he came back one night, to see Sirius sitting in one of the large armchairs seemingly waiting up for him. For a while Remus just stood there slightly confused, and then eventually headed over to the other boy, no man, a small tentative smile spreading along his face.

“You shouldn’t have waited up for me,” Remus said quietly, looking down at Sirius sitting in the armchair. Remus could practically hear the wheels turning in Sirius’s head, and he had to admit that he was curious to know of what would make the other man think that hard, but held it back for now. Sirius hardly talked about anything that went on in his mind, being rather a private person. Only sometimes he’d come out of his shell, telling either him or James of what was going, but also only when the black haired man already felt downright shit or Remus and James buggered him as long as it needed to get answers.

“I wasn’t,” Sirius replied somewhat indignantly.

“Ok… maybe I was,” he added just some seconds later, a small pout forming on the man’s face that Remus couldn’t help but find rather endearing. He instantly tried to push the thought farthest away from his mind again, having told himself long ago that he shouldn’t think like that about Sirius, at least not as long as the other man was around, since it only brought unnecessary and rather embarrassing erections.

Before Remus could however ask why Sirius had been waiting up, feeling a little concerned that something might have happened, the other man had gotten up, cupped Remus’s face in his hands and kissed him. For a moment Remus just stood there in shock, for a moment wondering if he was dreaming and if he should pinch himself, while his hands seemed to be moving on his own accord, wrapping themselves around Sirius in return and returning the kiss in a way he had never kissed anyone else before. And while he stood there just enjoying the moment, he guessed that good things in life could indeed happen, as long as one waits.
