The Ultimate Politics Survey

Describe your stance on:

Abortion: I think every woman has the right to an abortion if they deem it necessary. It's ignorant, in my opinion, to think that being pro-choice is NOT being pro-life. At the core of the problem is the fact that there should be more discussion and promotion of contraceptives so that abortion does not have to be a decision that women, or girls for that matter, have to make.

Affirmative Action: After hearing so many arguments on both sides, while I see the importance of focusing on merit I think it is ridiculous to assume that because racism is no longer institutionalized, it has disappeared. Going away to Brown made me realize first-hand the kind of problems that face minorities in the United States, something which in Miami had never presented itself as a problem for me. My experiences have solidified my stance, which is that I acknowledge that no system can ever truly be fair, Affirmative Action is necessary.

Age of Consent: 16? I guess it should depend on how old the other person is.

Animal Testing: Should only be allowed for medical testing (minimally) and not for cosmetics, etc.

Death Penalty: Wow...this one is so incredibly clear to me that it's amazing that people still debate it so much. The argument that says we simply do not have room is so unfounded because so few people are presently killed on death row that it would be the difference of having to build an extra prison every 20 years or so. The answer is not to kill the prisoners, but instead to decrease the amount of criminal activity by dealing with it at the root...perhaps more programs in schools or even for children going to juvenile detention centers.

Downloading Music/Movies: I don't feel bad for rich musicians who are too lazy to tour. I really doubt that the movie industry is really loosing out from downloading. Poverty is probably a more worthy cause than stoping piracy....we have bigger problems.

Drug Decriminalization: People should not serve for 10 years because they smoked pot. Yay for lower penalties for drugs. Put people in rehabilitation and have them see therapists instead of grouping them with rapists, murderers and thieves.

Factory Farming: eat organic haha I have no idea.

Free Trade: Get rid of farm subsidies in the US because it is screwing the Third World. Globalization is inevitable and the way to help people is not through subsidies, but instead by creating a large social welfare net for people to be able to fall back on.

Funding of Arts: Arts should not be cut out of schools with low budgets. It simply should not be an option because not only does it enrich a child's academic experience, but art can also be an important creative outlet at any stage in life.

Gay Marriage: I am alllllll for it. The fact that marriage is defined as a union between a man and a woman is close-minded, a relic that on the principle of seperation of church and state, should be abolished.

Gun Control: the NRA can go a little bit too far with their "rights." but honestly, i don't know what to say about this because i do believe people have the right to bear arms, just to a certain extent i guess.

Immigration: I guess you cannot just open the flood gates but at the same time immigration should be encouraged especially since the population is aging and we need to support the baby boomer generation when they retire (SOON). By allowing more immigration it would prevent illegal immigration, which is not only a security risk for the United States, but for the immigrant as well.

Hardcore Pornography: 18 and over should go crazy with it. Keep out of the hands of children.

Human Cloning: no.

Military Draft: no. It is a different time and I don't really see it being necessary if the United States would actually stick to fighting just wars.

Minimum Wage: Minimum wage should increase with inflation.

Prostitution: My boyfriend spent a few days in Amsterdam and came back horrified, believing more than ever that prostitution should not be legalized. I did not really need to be convinced.

School Vouchers: Wow. This does not work. I cannot even begin to explain why. If someone really thinks they work I will answer this. Comment away bitches.

Taxes: yes? They are necessary and I would willingly pay higher ones to increase the quality of education and have universal health care.

United Nations: Incredibly important and should not be ignored by any country no matter how powerful because then it makes this seem stupid: Saddam Hussein ignored UN resolutions, etc.....

Universal Health Care: It is barbaric to let people die because they cannot afford treatment. God dammit this is important.

War on Terrorism: You cannot have a war on a tactic. It is important to seperate the means from the cause when talking about terrorism, because depending on your definition, the United States has committed acts of terror. I'm too tired now to get all riled up about this one.
