So, I feel like almost every day for the past week I've gone "I want to right a livejournal entry about "blank"" And then I haven't, for various reasons, but mostly lack of time and a frustrating computer.
Today though, I have a brand-spanking-new computer, thanks to my wonderful Dell-employed mother, and some free time as I went to work in the morning in order to have time to get my life in order before school starts.
Interesting thing I realized while reading my friends' page a moment ago, the majority of my lj friends who update on a regular basis are no longer in college. Kind of makes me feel young, not that that's a problem - just means the rest of you are old farts. =P
Last Week
I worked at Mondavi a lot, as Taste is this upcoming Friday and we have a lot to do. Joe is also working there now, and our schedules overlapped a bit last week so that was fun.
I had a weird experience when I was getting wine from the Development storage unit. Said unit is on the Grand Tier level of the hall, and is next to a set of doors that go out to that seating area. I was getting this wine at around 4PM on like Tuesday, when no shows should have been performing, but there was music and applause/laughter coming from the Hall, which weirded me out.
It ended up being some techs listening to music (I guess they are trying out some new spiffy speakers) but it messed with my mind. And then I thought about how fricken cool it would be to play one's personal music on the Jackson Hall speakers... talk about sound quality.
After many failed attempts, I finally attended a trivia night in Davis. On Monday night, we went to Bistro 33's Pub Quiz, which was cool for many reasons foremost that you don't have to be 21 to get in. Therefore, Joe and Daniele were able to come. We didn't win, but we held our own, especially in the later rounds. Our group (me, Jamie, Joe & Daniele) kinda sucked at Celebrity Gossip, but I'm cool with that. I'd like to go again, but not this week.
Wednesday, I had (mind-numbingly boring) Peer Adviser training. I learned a little, but not much, but did get to meet the Dance Adviser, Kelsey who seems very cool.
Friday early morning, I was awoken my the incredibly thick smell of smoke. Our apartment reaked of it, causing both Jamie and I to freak out, thinking something in our apartment was on fire. But, that was not the case, instead it was grass fires in Woodland... fricken Woodland. The winds were so intense they brought it into to Davis and into our apartment... certainly freaked me out.
Saturday, two of my cousins moved into the dorms to begin their freshman year at Davis. I went to help, and it was massively surreal. I must say that the whole process was a thousand times better organized than three years ago when I moved in.
That night Joe and I saw Savion Glover tap dance to a live orchestra at Mondavi. I was WAY impressed, though frustrated by the jazzy aspect at the end.
Sunday I got my new computer, spent some time with Mom and Morgan and played a nice long game of Risk (which made me miss you, Sam). Then I went to bed early, because I'm an old Fart
This Week
Today we met the theater/dance freshmen and transfers. Well, some of them... of the 26 new people, 8 showed up. Which was actually the exact number that Jon predicted. It went well, and they seemed like a good group... though all the theater emphasis folk were actors. I also got to see a bunch of people for the first time this fall, which was nice
Tomorrow, is the Arts Luncheon and the Undergrad forum... which I still need to order desserts for... And I have to meet with Hilary before she leaves for Europe....
Thursday, classes start. This quarter I'm taking Nutrition 10, California History, and European Intellectual History (with Jamie!). Not very much, but add on a thesis, peer advising and a job and it seems more like my usual insanity. Speaking of the thesis, I need to have a more complete proposal by the end of this week...
And Friday, is Taste of the Season. It shall be a nicely long day at Mondavi, 10 to 10 with Load-In and the event. I'm looking forward to the food... and the wine.
