Hey--I'm Irish girl, aren't I?!?! How about this:

This is an image of the place my father was born: Glen car Valley in Co. Sligo. If you ever want to see faeries, this is the place to look. In fact, Yeats wrote a poem called "The Stolen Child" about this area! Yeats is even buried across the way from my grandparents in Drumcliffe Churchyard. But we don't give a crap because he was on the opposite side of the war.

On this mountain, Dermot and Grainne supposedly fled Finn Mc Cool! During the 1798 rebellions, the British tied a drape around a local man and had him lead them through the mountain at night. But he fooled them by tying the drape around a boulder and rolled it down the mountain. The pursuing soldiers fell to their deaths chasing him! (I was told this story when I was young and was heartbroken to hear that horses died in the pursuit!!) It's also thought to be the headquarters of Queen Maeve! She is thought to be buried in another part of Sligo in a cairn dedicated to her. My cousin Dave says she's buried in Rosscommon. He wishes.

If you go to Ireland, you have to visit Sligo. The Battle of Moytura between the Tuatha and Fir Bolg was fought there! The last high king of Ireland was from Sligo! And my uncle was mayor of Sligo Town for a few years. How's that for selling the ol' country!

By the way if I don't mention, County Cork, my mom would probably be upset. Very nice place. Lots of hills and heather. They talk really really fast though!

Hope everyone had a nice St Patrick's Day. The family had corn beef and cabbage.  Passed on that, but the Irish music was hoping!
