Title: A Learning Process
Pairing: Yunho/Jaejoong
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Romance, Humor
Summary: Jung Yunho was supposed to be the mysterious, indifferent, student council president. While he’d never stolen any minute of Kim Jaejoong’s attention before, he certainly was now.

Yoochun sighed, “What am I going to do with you Jaejoong?”

Jaejoong huffed and crossed his arms, “You don’t need to bother worrying about me. All I have to do is hang out with the boring school officers after school, and my grade will go up. It’s easy enough to do -“

“I don’t see why you let your grade slip so low. You do well in everything, except in Mr. Kim’s class. It’s weird.” Yoochun commented as they made their way to the student council’s office. “You pass the quizzes, but you refuse to do the homework and projects.”

“They don’t interest me.”

“Sometimes you have to do things -“

Jaejoong held up his hand, “Please spare me the lecture. I’ve heard it all before from my mother and eight sisters - I don’t need it from you.” He pointed the sign on the door and placed his other hand on Yoochun’s shoulder. “Don’t wait up for me.”

“I won’t.” Yoochun gave him a worried frown, “Well...have fun?”

“I’ll try.”

Jaejoong opened the door and was surprised to see that there was only one person inside the office. He shut the door quietly behind him and walked up to the only person inside, who probably hadn’t heard the door open due to the headphones he had over his ears.

He tapped his shoulder, and the person turned around.

It was the school council president himself, Jung Yunho. He took off his headphones immediately, “I was informed that you’d be coming for a few weeks after school, but I don’t have anything for you to do.”

“Why, you don’t trust me?” Jaejoong asked, hardly sounding offended. It was the truth after all, he was a known slacker and irresponsible student - he wasn’t surprised that the most responsible student in the school would have a problem trusting him.

Yunho shrugged, “I prefer to do the work myself.”

“Lone wolf much?”

“Work gets done faster that way.” The council president replied, “There are papers that could be filed, but I doubt you’d want to do that, so just sit down and do whatever you want.”

“Can I smoke?” Jaejoong asked as he took out a packet of cigarettes he’d been hiding in his pocket. “I’ll open the window -“

“No, you can’t. Smoking isn’t allowed on school premises.”

Jaejoong leaned forward, his nose close to brushing against Yunho’s. As he spoke, his breath ghosted against the skin of Yunho’s face, “No one’s going to know. If you -“

Yunho pushed him away lightly and turned back to the papers he had in front of him, waving Jaejoong away with the back of his hand. “Just do your homework or something. I’m sure the teachers would appreciate it if you started making an effort.”

“I don’t think they would, it’d just mean more things for them to check.” Jaejoong replied as he made his way to the seat closest to the door. “I think I’m doing them a favour by not submitting their requirements.”

“I’m sure they’d rather check your paper than write letters to your parents.” Yunho snapped back before he placed his headphones back on, signalling that the conversation was over.

Jaejoong glanced at the wall clock, unsure of how long he was going to be with the other boy. He bit his lip and sighed. He took his phone out to call Yoochun but changed his mind and shoved it back into his bag.

He went to sleep and when he woke up - to Yunho shaking his shoulder, he glanced at the clock again and noticed that more than an hour had passed. Jaejoong rubbed his eyes drowsily, “Do you always stay this late?”

“Yes.”

“Every day?” he asked as he got out of his seat and slung his bag over his shoulder. He stopped and waited for Yunho, who was fixing his things, to answer him.

Yunho noticed he hadn’t left yet and turned back, “Yes.”

“That must suck.” He said dully as he adjusted the way his bag’s strap was hanging over his shoulder. “I can go now, right?”

“Yeah.”

Jaejoong made his way to the door but paused as he was about to open it. He turned around and looked at Yunho, “You don’t mind this? You don’t mind that I’m not doing anything to deserve a raise in my grade?”

Yunho slung his bag over his shoulder and walked up to him, “No, I don’t. As long as you don’t bother me, I’ll tell the teacher that you’re being helpful, cooperative, and that you’re on your way to a new path in your academic future.” He opened the door for Jaejoong and gestured for him to go out first.

Jaejoong smiled, amused with the gesture. “Are you going to take me out for dinner?” he glanced at the taller boy for a reaction as soon as he was out the door, but Yunho’s attention was focused on locking the door.

When Yunho turned around, he raised an eyebrow at the fact Jaejoong was still around.

“Don’t you have somewhere to be?” he asked.

“No, not really.” Jaejoong replied with a shrug. “It’s why I accepted this deal in the first place. I don’t do much after school.”

Yunho studied him for a few seconds, “Well...I’ll see you tomorrow then.” He said awkwardly before he walked past Jaejoong.

Jaejoong watched his retreating figure and felt unsure about how his first solo experience with the student council president had gone. He was quiet, self-assured, respectable enough but hardly amusing. Jaejoong had to admit though, Yunho was quite attractive, and he’d thought so ever since he’d first met the other boy.

But was he interesting? Jaejoong thought for a moment before he decided.

No, he wasn’t - and it was a shame.
o-o-o
“How was your afternoon with Yunho?” Yoochun asked as he sat down next to Jaejoong on the grass. He accepted the lunch Jaejoong handed to him and sat down Indian style as he waited for the chopsticks.

Jaejoong handed him the chopsticks, “It was boring. I slept through it.”

“And he let you?” Yoochun asked as he clinked his chopsticks together, something he insisted on doing each time before he ate.

“Yeah, he did. We didn’t talk much at all.”

“Well, I guess that’s to be expected.” Yoochun said as he chewed contemplatively, his eyes focused elsewhere. “We were classmates last year - he radiates an intimidating leader aura, so aside from moments when leadership is needed, he doesn’t talk much.”

Jaejoong stopped eating, “He’s boring.” He said aloud before he added, “He’s nice to look at though.”

“He’s one of those look but don’t touch people.” Yoochun replied as they noticed Yunho walking, carrying a big box in his hands, a few feet away from them. “He doesn’t radiate much life to be honest - he’s kind of cold.”

Jaejoong watched as a girl, a cute junior who he vaguely placed as one of the student council members, approached Yunho. He could assume that she was offering to help him with the box but after a few words were spoken Yunho left, box still in his hands, and the girl looked visibly disappointed.

“He is pretty cold, isn’t he?” Jaejoong stated as he watched Yunho go back inside the building. “...why is he the student council president again?”

“He’s handsome, he gets the job done, and he’s efficient.” Yoochun replied immediately after he turned his eyes back to his lunch. “Girls love him since he’s handsome, guys like him since he’s cool and doesn’t pick up any girls they like, and the administration loves him he since he’s a good poster boy for the school.” Yoochun glanced at Jaejoong and shook his head, “Seriously, you act like you don’t go to this school sometimes.”

“I just never particularly cared about Jung Yunho.”

“So you care now?”

“I just think it’d be nice if I learned a little bit about the person who I’ll be spending my afternoons with.” Jaejoong replied, “Even if I won’t be talking to him.” He thought for a minute, “Do you think he would mind if I didn’t show up?”

Yoochun shot him a warning look, “Jaejoong, just because he lets you sleep, it doesn’t mean he’ll let you skip. You can’t abuse his leniency.”

“Hm.”

“Jaejoong, you can’t skip.”

“Lunch’s almost over, let’s go back.” Jaejoong said as he took the box out of Yoochun’s hands and packed it away. He walked away and turned back to see Yoochun glaring at him, for stealing the lunch and for ignoring his warning.

“What?” he asked innocently. Yoochun continued to glare as he walked up next to Jaejoong, but Jaejoong merely rolled his eyes at his best friend’s behavior.

“I won’t skip. I’ll be there later.” He said with a reassuring smile that Yoochun seemed to accept. He noticed Yunho looking at him with an impassive look, and Jaejoong mouthed, I’ll see you later, with his usual flirtatious smile.

It was too bad that he had no intention of going.
o-o-o
He’d skipped two meetings, and Yunho hadn’t approached him once.

Jaejoong wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. It was either Yunho was some sort of pushover, or he just really didn’t give a fuck about what Jaejoong did. To be honest, he’d been hoping to at least raise some sort of reaction from the student council president to see if he had more personality to him.

His class was PE, but as usual, he’d chosen not to go and had told the teacher he didn’t feel well. He was supposed to be in the clinic, but he didn’t like the smell there and the nurses complained about his constant present there, so he decided to just stay in the classroom.

He looked out the window and wondered if it’d be a good idea for him to cut class for the rest of the day. The weather did look nice outside. He considered it but decided to stay - they had a test the next period.

Jaejoong stretched and decided to wander around campus for a bit. He got out of his seat and left the classroom, only for him to see Yunho walking in his direction. He raised his hand to wave but lowered it the moment he realized how furious Yunho looked.

“Do you like making me look like an idiot?” Yunho asked after he’d taken hold of Jaejoong’s wrist and had brought him inside the empty classroom. “Just because I was lenient, it doesn’t mean -“

“Does it matter if I’m there or not?” Jaejoong shot back, “I don’t do anything anyway. I don’t feel like wasting my time and you’re not particularly talkative either, so there’s no reason for me to stay.”

“You’re supposed to be there. I let you do nothing, and you’re ungrateful about it. Do you know how easy it’d be for me to tell the teacher that you’re not showing up?”

“Go ahead and tell him then.” Jaejoong replied as he held Yunho’s gaze. “If you want, I’ll go tell him myself.”

“Several of the teachers are getting tired of your behavior - Mr. Kim in particular, so if you don’t want to risk being petitioned for expulsion, I think it’d be a good idea for you to start showing up.”

Yunho opened the door and walked out with another word. Jaejoong frowned and returned to his seat, unsettled by what Yunho had said. He was quiet for the rest of the day - much to his classmates’ surprise, and by the time it was dismissal, he was the last person left in the classroom.

While he enjoyed causing the teachers distress, he knew his limits with them. He didn’t know that some had actually considered getting him expelled -something he was sure that he didn’t want happening.

Jaejoong cleared his things and checked the classroom clock.

“Fuck.” He said loudly, darting out of the classroom. He ran down the corridor and when he neared the student council’s room, he froze in horror the moment he noticed that Mr. Kim was exiting it, Yunho following behind him.

He was too late.

Jaejoong hid and pressed himself against the wall to avoid being seen. He could hear their conversation, although Yunho was a little harder to hear.

“It’s good to hear the council’s plans are running smoothly. You’re doing an excellent job, as usual. I would prefer if you tried to involve the other officers more though.”

“They do their work efficiently, but I don’t want to bother them with things I’m capable enough to do on my own.” Yunho replied, and Jaejoong nearly scoffed loudly - he was fairly sure the student council president was just a workaholic.

“Where’s Jaejoong?”

Jaejoong stiffened and waited for Yunho’s answer. If it was unfavourable, he would reveal himself and pretend like Yoochun had held him up from getting to the council room in time.

“I let him leave early.”

“Why?” Mr. Kim asked, and Jaejoong noted that he sounded rather suspicious of Yunho’s answer.

“I was just finishing when you came in sir. I didn’t see the point in letting him stay any longer when I didn’t need his help anymore.”

“Ah. Well, keep up the good work Yunho.”

Jaejoong snuck a glance and let out a sigh of relief when Mr. Kim walked in the other direction. Yunho was still standing out in the corridor, so he walked out of his hiding spot and made his presence known.

Yunho’s eyes flickered in his direction, his usual composed expression on his face and if he’d been surprised, he didn’t show it at all.

“Why’d you cover for me?” Jaejoong asked as he approached Yunho slowly.

“I had a feeling you’d show up.” Yunho answered before he moved to open the door. He paused and glanced at Jaejoong. “I told him I let you leave. You should go now.”

“I owe you.”

Yunho chuckled, and Jaejoong stared at him in surprise. “You couldn’t even keep up your bargain with a teacher; I doubt you’ll uphold anything with me.” He shook his head and opened the door, “Amusing, but no thanks.”

He turned away and shut the door, leaving Jaejoong alone out in the corridor.

Yunho had gotten a lot more interesting.
o-o-o
When he came into the student council office the next day, he was determined to learn more about Jung Yunho. Yunho glanced up when he came in, nodded in acknowledgment of his presence, and then turned back to his work.

Jaejoong walked slowly over to Yunho and brought a chair over so he could sit down next to the taller boy. He leaned onto the table, “What’s this?”

“My work.” Yunho replied as he flipped through documents.

“I kind of got that. What is it specifically?” Jaejoong asked persistently. He plucked Yunho’s pen out of his hand, “You should smile more.” He said randomly the moment the other student lifted his eyes off the paper to meet his. “When you won the elections, you barely smiled.”

“I was the only one running.” Yunho replied as he offered his outstretched palm, waiting for Jaejoong to give the pen back. “I don’t think there was any need for me to be extremely happy about it.”

“A nice little cheer or dance would’ve been nice.” Jaejoong replied as he placed his hand over Yunho’s, intertwining their fingers. “Your hands are smooth.”

Yunho pulled his hand away slowly and rummaged through his bag for another pen. He found one and was about to begin writing again before he paused to look up at Jaejoong again. “Thank you, I guess.”

“Do you have a girlfriend?” Jaejoong asked as Yunho began writing again. He tapped the pen against the desk idly, “She must hate how hard you work. I bet you don’t take her out on dates at -“

“I don’t have a girlfriend.”

“Boyfriend?”

Yunho sighed, “Please keep quiet.”

“It’s fine if you like guys.” Jaejoong mused, ignoring Yunho’s order. “I like guys, and it’s not such a big deal to my family or friends. Well, my grandparents on both sides disapprove, but I don’t care. I don’t need an ugly Christmas sweater from them anyway.”

Yunho stood up and moved table, taking his papers with him. Jaejoong followed and sat down on the new desk, “Are you asexual?” he asked. “I don’t know whether you like girls or guys since you haven’t really answered either of -“

“I’m busy, let me work.”

“You should just let me help you.”

“I don’t need it.”

“You might appreciate it -“

Yunho looked up at him, “It’s a Friday. Go, leave early. I’ll see you on Monday.” He muttered before looking back down at his papers. “I’m sure you have some date somewhere, or a place to be -“

“I don’t want to leave you alone.” Jaejoong replied as a smile quirked at his lips. He placed his hand over Yunho’s paper and leaned down, their faces centimetres apart from each other. “You should speak more.”

“You should keep quiet. Aren’t the bad boy types supposed to be quiet, brooding and mysterious? I don’t think anyone thinks you’re mysterious from the way you keep talking about everything.” Yunho countered as he shot Jaejoong an uninterested look.

“You’re too quiet and anti-social to be a golden boy.” He paused for a moment before he added, “You’re too fit to be a nerd either.”

“I’m glad you noticed my body.” Yunho replied dryly, and Jaejoong’s smile grew bigger the moment he noticed the slight smile on Yunho’s lips. “Anyway, you don’t fit the bad boy bill - you’re too pretty.”

Jaejoong acted hurt and recoiled from Yunho, placing his hand over his chest. “I’m too pretty to be a bad boy?” he gasped in horror, “Do you think I should get a tattoo? Will that amp up the testosterone levels of my image?”

Yunho got out of his chair and went over to his bag, “It might help. You could get a new haircut too.” He replied as he looked through his things.

Jaejoong walked over to him and waited until Yunho stopped rummaging through his bag to look at him. He placed a pout on his face, “You’re supposed to say that you like me just the way I am.”

“I don’t feel like lying to flatter you.” Yunho replied before he turned his attention back to looking for something his bag.

Jaejoong moved in closer and pressed his body against Yunho’s body, draping his arm over Yunho’s. He leaned and brushed his lips against Yunho’s ear, “I already have a tattoo though. Do you want to see it?” he whispered, his breath tickling the skin of Yunho’s neck.

“To be honest, no.”

Yunho moved away and collected his papers. “You can go now. We’re done here.”

Jaejoong frowned, “That was cold.”

“Mhm.” Yunho replied noncommittally as he filed his papers in a manila envelope and turned away to put them away in a drawer.

Jaeoong slung his bag over his shoulder, “I’ll see you on Monday.”

“Have a nice weekend.”

“You too.” Jaejoong glanced at the wall clock. They’d ended later than usual. He smiled again, “If we’re going to end this late again, I expect you to take me out for dinner.”

Yunho laughed, and Jaejoong’s smile got wider.

He had a nice laugh.
o-o-o
Jaejoong frowned at his textbook.

It was exactly a week since the first Friday with Yunho, and Jaejoong was extremely disappointed with how things were proceeding. Yunho was being extremely difficult. He wasn’t talking at all, and he was getting frustrated with him.

While there was a reason Yunho was so quiet - apparently the administration were planning on cutting down on the student council’s budget and there was all sort of paperwork for some event he had to run, but Jaejoong couldn’t see why he was being so silent.

The entire week, he’d asked questions and hoped Yunho would continue the conversation, but in the end, it’d just teeter out awkwardly and end because he’d only been given short, one word answers of no use and interest.

It was greatly frustrating, and if Yunho didn’t start talking to him soon, he was sure he’d start rambling on and on about himself.

Jaejoong glared at Yunho’s back and frowned.

“Why are you so quiet this week?” he asked, voicing out the question he’d be thinking in his head. “You were perfectly cooperative and somewhat talkative last Friday.”

“I’m being myself.”

“You weren’t this boring last Friday.” Jaejoong replied as he remained in his seat, hoping that Yunho would turn around and talk to him properly. “It’d be nice if you -“

“It was one day.” Yunho answered, not looking at Jaejoong. “Before that, you and I barely talked at all - you can’t judge my personality off of one Friday.”

“You were terribly cute on that Friday though.” Jaejoong stated, any possible hint of shyness thrown out the window. “I would’ve kissed you that time I was sitting on the desk, except you moved away.”

“I’m not interested.”

“Well I’m sure you would be after a few kisses. Lots of people have said I’m a good kisser.”

It was at this that Yunho turned his head to look at Jaejoong. He looked irritated and disbelieving. “Who said that? Yoochun? I don’t - ”

Jaejoong raised an eyebrow, “What?”

“You’re irritating me, leave.”

Jaejoong thought for a moment. “I’m not dating Yoochun.” He said aloud as he mulled over Yunho’s words. He paused after coming to his conclusion before a wide smile appeared on his face. “Are you jealous of him? That is so cute -“

He got out of his desk with more energy and a sense of purpose that had been missing a few minutes previously. He dragged a chair and placed it next to Yunho’s chair then sat on it.

“I think it’s time we got to know each other better.” Jaejoong said, as if explaining the reason for his close proximity. “If we’re going to be spending weekday afternoons together, I want to do it with someone I’m close to.”

Yunho didn’t reply, but Jaejoong continued. “I’ll ask a question, and you answer. I’ll answer the question too, so don’t get too worried about what I’ll ask. Is that okay?”

The student council president didn’t say anything, and didn’t lift his eyes off the paper he was reading, so Jaejoong took it as a yes.

“I have eight sisters. Do you have any siblings?” he asked, finding that talking about the abundant amount of estrogen in his household usually piqued people’s interest in finding out more about him.

“I have a sister.”

“I hope she doesn’t look like you.”

Yunho finally took his eyes off the paper in front of him and glanced at Jaejoong, a confused and somewhat offended expression on his handsome face. He massaged his temple, “What do you mean by that?”

“If she looked like you, she’d look like a man.” Jaejoong explained, “You don’t think your sister looks like a man, do you?”

“You’re so stupid. Stop talking.” Yunho muttered as he shook his head and went back to revising the project proposals, scribbling furiously and encircling things with his red pen.

Jaejoong huffed and leaned forward, resting his face on his palm. “I’m just trying to get to know you better.”

“You were fine with us being strangers before.” Yunho replied as he wrote a little slower than before, “I don’t think anything’s changed since then.” He set down his pen and looked at Jaejoong. “Don’t you think it’s weird for us to get to know each other? It’s not like this is going to go anywhere.”

“It could go somewhere.” Jaejoong muttered as he avoided Yunho’s gaze and looked down at the papers just so their eyes wouldn’t meet. “Is there something wrong with getting to know you anyway? Do you like not needing to talk to people?”

He felt Yunho’s eyes on his face, and the attention made him uncomfortable. He shifted in his seat before he glanced up to meet Yunho’s eyes, “What?” he snapped irritably before he looked away.

“You’re nicer than you look.”

“Too bad I can’t say the same for you.” Jaejoong replied, “But thank you. If you took the time to actually get to know me, I think you’d like me.” He glanced at the clock, “Can I go now?”

Yunho glanced at the clock and nodded.

Jaejoong left his seat and crossed the room to get his bag. He could hear the rustling of paper as Yunho fixed his things, and the opening and closing of the drawer where all the papers were kept.

He stared down at his bag for a while, simply listening to the activity that was going on behind him. When he heard Yunho’s footsteps approaching, he slung his bag over his shoulder and made his way to leave.

Yunho opened the door for him, and they left the room. Jaejoong glanced back to see the other boy lock the door. When he made no move to say anything, Jaejoong began to walk away.

“Jaejoong, wait.”

He turned and was immediately pushed against the wall, his back pushed against the announcements on the bulletin board. Before he could get a word out in surprise, Yunho’s lips were on his.

His eyes widened in surprise and when he felt Yunho’s tongue run along his lower lip, but despite the initial shock, he impulsively opened his mouth and placed his arms around the taller boy’s neck so that he could get closer.

Yunho tasted like mint and something sweet that he couldn’t place, and Jaejoong felt himself practically melting into his arms. Yunho’s kisses were slow and foreign as he explored his mouth, sending tingles of pleasure down Jaejoong’s spine.

He pulled away, and Jaejoong’s eyes snapped open at the loss of contact. He impulsively licked his lower lip for one last taste of Yunho. His arms fell to his side and he stared at the taller boy, still lost from their kisses.

Yunho reached forward and gently took hold of Jaejoong’s chin, “You think this could go somewhere?” he asked, his breath ghosting against Jaejoong’s face. His lips curved into a small smile before he stole a chaste kiss.

“Let’s see if this will go somewhere then.” Yunho said finally as he brushed Jaejoong’s cheekbone with his thumb before he pulled away. He walked away and left him alone in the corridor, lost and dazed.

When Jaejoong gathered his senses, he jerked away from the bulletin board.

“Hey! Come back!” he shouted, although he was fairly sure Yunho was gone. He bit his lip and glanced at his reflection in a window. His lips were bruised and his cheeks were noticeably tinted with a blush. He huffed and began to walk.

For the first time in his entire academic career, he was looking forward to school on Monday.
