No, my laptop still is not fixed. Unfortunately the $60 I started squirrelling away now has to go to the City of Chicago for being TWO MINUTES late on my parking meter. Of course I am going to contest it -- not necessarily because I wasn't wrong but because if the city wants that $60 they'll have to PULL IT OUT OF MY ASS first-- but I usually end up with the bitch-side of the lollipop stick in these matters.

Ah, the neverending whack-a-mole of payments that is adult life in the first world.

Anyway, there was a post about the First Lady's health initiative on one of my mama-boards. Seems that some of us feel our rights are being a wee bit infringed upon in the public schools, with all this food-allergy and healthy eating nonsense. Here is one woman's reply:

"I don't normally comment on other people's political opinions because it's not always productive but as for the first lady's healthy eating initiative. It's her cause. All first lady's had them. All of them. That silly Mrs. Bush wanted all of our children to learn to read! The nerve! Betty Ford, while admittedly being a drunk (I kid) wanted us women to have equal rights and educate us on cancer. Who does she think she is? Mrs. Carter wanted us to realize the truth about mental illness. Lady Bird Johnson educated us on environmental rights and beautification of our country. Mrs. O wants our kids to back away from the TV and computer, put down the cheetos and soda and go outside and eat some fruit like we did back in the day and suddenly she is some high falutin uppity dictator. And I am not even going to lie; I'm a chubby mother who ate two pieces of pizza for dinner last night and loves me some sour cream.

That being said; I like learning new stuff about everything. I like trying to give my son better health and nutritious foods, and I like having assistance with that. I take it with a grain of salt. If it bothers people that much they have every right in the world to feed their kids crap at home all the live long day just to stick it to the man."

YEAH! US OUT OF MY FRUITEROUS!

The woman making the comment I noticed, politely left out the fact that the healthy eating message may be called "uppity" when it's coming from a "woman of color". When all the white First Ladies were doing their thing, nobody accused the the government of micromanaging. Just sayin' is all.
