TAUNTON - A 22-year-old Hanson man wearing only underwear and a baseball cap was arrested for exposing himself in front of dozens of people at a Bay Street shopping plaza, police said.
William Arruda, 22, of 414 Winter St., Hanson, was scheduled to be arraigned today in Taunton District Court on three counts of indecent exposure, three counts of lewd, wanton and lascivious conduct, and disorderly conduct.
Arruda was arrested Sunday morning at about 9 a.m. after witnesses told police they saw a tattoo-covered man in his underwear exposing himself to people in traffic on Bay Street near Interstate 495 and at Tedeschi's Plaza.
"We had witnesses lined up on the side of the road. The guy is lucky nobody went after him," said Sgt. Paul Roderick, who assisted at the scene.
One witness told police he was stopped at the lights waiting to turn near Tedeschi's when the light turned green.
The witness told police he had to wait for two men to cross the road, including one man in his underwear.
The witness said Arruda walked by his car, stopped and pulled his shorts down to his knees.
The witness said Arruda continued walking.
A couple told police they saw Arruda walking out of Tedeschi's with his shorts down to his knees.
Police received over a dozen calls from people reporting the man.
Patrolman Thomas Larkin responded to the scene and saw Arruda in his underwear walking south on Bay Street.
Arruda was walking with a friend who was fully clothed.
Larkin stopped the pair to question them.
Arruda identified himself and said he was just going for a walk, according to the police report.
