I just emailed Joseph Arthur and told him that next time around, he should play in Phoenix.
I absolutely love his new cd. These are the off-the-top-of-my-head notable faves.
-in ohio (short and pretty, melodic)
-can't exist (brooding, intense, music and lyrics are breathtaking)
-devil's broom (I want to pick these lyrics a part. brooding, beautiful)
-echo park (omigosh, lovely. one of the prettiest tracks)
-puppets (the best dancing song ever. energetic, amazing. musically/lyrically wow)
-wasted (slower and still captivating. lovely lyrics)
-I am (another one I want to pick apart lyrically. lovely)
-a smile that explodes (this one is the prettiest track. I put it on repeat and cry every time. I love this song)
now, normally, I don't do posts like this where I rave about a particular artist, but Joseph Arthur is rave-worthy. especially this cd. this one seems slightly more experimental than his previous. much more daring. yet he still has the same maturity in his lyrics, and exerts the same talent overall. This cd, Our Shadows Will Remain, is the best cd I have ever owned.
