As I understand it Katherine (or any varient spelling of) originally came from the Greek and it's means "pure" or "clean." Caitlin (or most varient spellings of) is the Gaelic derrivative of Katherine and has the same meaning in Gaelic as Katherine does in Greek.
I think I'm right on that, I'm doing it all from memory because I don't have my books to hand.

Kathryn. Middle name would be Anne.
'Kathryn' is always mispronounced, though. It's 2 syllables, people.
