For Eames (November 21st)

Nov 09, 2011 01:42

I can make part of the trip in the ATV, but part of it's always a hike. So, I've got plenty of time to think, which means there's no excuse for why I don't realize 'til I'm already almost there how stupid of an idea it is. But it's a habit. When shit's bad, when I know it's gonna be, I haven't been going to Dean or Sirius or Charlie or anyone else ( Read more... )

Eames has gotten used to Neil coming up here with some regularity, for all the various reasons that prompt him to do so. (He always wonders, usually asks or knows, never judges.) Somehow, he still isn't expecting, when he opens his front door, intending to step outside for a while, to see him sitting just a little ways off in the distance. Already it makes him wonder if there's something more to this, if what brought him out here is serious this time around, but he says nothing at first as he heads in that direction, taking a seat on the rock beside him. Neil will say whatever he needs to say, and for his own part, he'll be here in whatever capacity he can. Head turned in his direction, he asks lightly, "Were you planning on knocking, or just waiting for me to find you?"

When he walks up and sits down, I barely move. My eyes stay on the horizon, smoke curling out from my lips, but I lean closer, so little that I'm not sure he'll even notice.

Cutting him a sideways look, one corner of my lips tilt up into a sheepish smile. "Who says I'm here for you? Maybe I just like the view."

Eames does notice, but doesn't comment on it, just shakes his head in response to Neil's statement. "Past experience says you're here for me," he answers, eyebrows arching, his own gaze shifting from Neil out into the distance. It really is a hell of a view, one it's impossible not to appreciate, mad though this place might be. "Besides, you wouldn't come all the way up here just to look at scenery, would you? You've seen it any number of times."

"I wasn't really payin' attention to the fuckin' view, all those other times," I point out, a faint smile tugging at my lips.

"I was gonna knock, I just hadn't worked up to it, yet. Just tryin' to decide if it makes me a dick that I drag my ass all the way out here whenever I feel like shit."

One day I might actually come out here when I'm not feeling sorry for myself.
