Why are you doing this to me, Ruth? You prompt me for a new fandom or an interesting AU, and then it's like the idea's nailed into my brain. I'm coming up with a whole story for how they got here and the struggles they've had and what they're going to do a week, a month, a year from now.

I really need a David and/or George icon.

This is not three sentences.

They're making it work the best they can: George is doing construction (cash under the table) and tends bar a few nights a week, while David makes coffee and answers phones for an insurance company and picks up whatever short-term jobs he can.

Harlingen is far enough from home that they can distance themselves from what happened, though David still has a difficult time with that, and relatively affordable. They're completely on their own without David's dad's money. Even though their living expenses aren't too bad, between David's physical therapy and tuition and the payments for George's car, there isn't much money left over.

As a result, most of their meals have to be pretty cheap; that normally means sacrificing quality, though David's doctor says he needs fresh things to help him heal. It's tough. He tries to charm some of the dining hall women into giving him discounts, with mixed results.

Most nights they're too tired to fuck. The antidepressant David's on takes away his desire, but when they sleep in and have brunch on Sundays, his favorite part is getting George off. This won't be the life he leads forever. Something will change sooner rather than later.

They have each other.
