Glad you're having such a good time! And I'm reading about your adventures with great interest, since I'll be in Portland the first weekend in August. I told my mom about the Saturday Market, and we looked it up and decided to go when we're there. We're also going to Powell's, too, so I'm pretty damn excited about that. We're actually staying in Pacific City, Oregon (right on the coast, and two hours from Portland), but if we're already halfway across the country, might as well make the journey to Portland! However, I'm about 80% sure I convinced my mom to go horseback riding in Pacific City, so I'm pretty stoked about that. I haven't been horseback riding since I was in middle school!
I've lived in Missouri all my life, so when I looked up the weather in Portland for our trip, all I think was "it's going to be FREEZING!! Break out the pants and coats!" Okay, 69 for a high isn't freezing, but I'm pretty sure the low here was 83 yesterday, so you see where I'm coming from here.
Yes, I have read Runaway, and I have to say, I

Nice, I'm glad to hear you will be going to the coast, it's just so gorgeous over there. I also got to spend a few days there. Not in Pacific City, but not too far from there actually. Definitely be prepared to dress warmly for the beach, it was pretty chilly...but it felt so, so good after the oppressive heat of Texas (or in your case, Missouri, it's very similar here, the lows are usually in the upper 70's or lower 80's). But then I grew up in Oregon so I might be a little more used to that cooler weather then you. ;)
I'm so glad to hear you will be going to Saturday Market! It's really fun and was always one of my favorite places to go when I was a kid/teenager. My daughter and I really enjoyed browsing and of course she wanted EVERYTHING! :P And, believe it or not, this trip was the first time I've ever been to Powell's. ^^; It's huge! So many books, but it's just wow and definitely worth it if you like books. And I know you do.
Honestly, I'm not sure what I thought of Runaway. It was a bit of let down for me, I think

I just checked the weather again for Pacific City next week. Gah! 68 for a high in August. That's just unnatural (the high on Tuesday here is going to be about 100

I recommend a wind breaker for the beach, that's the best thing to help against the chilly weather because it's awfully windy at the coast. When do you leave? Sometime this week I'm guessing. ;) I hope you have a great time and I want to hear all about it when you get home.
Ah well, Runaway was okay, just not as good as I was hoping I guess. I still like Meg Cabot and I went ahead and put a request in for Insatiable at the library.
The Percy Jackson books are a lot of fun! We've had the first one lying around the house for a while but I never took the time to read it until now. I'm kind of glad I waited until the series was all done to get started so I can just read them all straight through (although I did that by accident). I still haven't seen the movie but I think that will be worth watching sometime soon. :D
I've got a trench-like jacket for the beach, so I'm hoping that's enough :) My plane leaves at 6:30 Thursday morning. SO EARLY. Just shoot me. But I'm flying through Dallas on the way home, so for 40 minutes next Monday, we'll actually be in the same state!
I understand. Especially when you've been waiting so long for a book to come out, it's hard not to build up your expectations so much :P But I think you might have more luck with Insatiable. You know me, I'm not big into the non-Dracula vampire novels, and I loved it.
I actually enjoyed the movie more than I thought I would. It's a fun little adventure movie, and the guy playing Percy is SO CUTE. I think he's playing D'Artangan in the newest version of The Three Musketeers, actually.
I hope you had fun on your Oregon vacation. :D LOL, we were in the same state briefly! :P
Luckily for me, I didn't have to wait long to get Insatiable from the library. It didn't take me long to read it either. I did like it better then Runaway, but it reminded me a lot of Twilight...yet it wasn't like Twilight. I did like how Meg Cabot took the opportunity to make fun of the vampire craze and I think of herself form being dragged into it (you did say she wrote the book against her wishes). I just wish she had avoided the whole "two guys are in love with the main female character". Yeah, I could have skipped that part. Plus, Alaric's last name is "Wulf"! That CAN'T be a coincidence. :P Yet, I'm amused by it...and the fact that Alaric is this man's man, yet he cares about things like the thread count in his bed sheets. Okay, that is funny. :P
Anyway, I was entertained. Thanks for the recommendation!
I haven't seen The Lightning Theif (the movie) yet. But it's on my list...my whole family wants to see that one.
Haha, my stay in Dallas turned out to be VERY brief. I was in the airport proper for about 18 minutes, and most of that was on SkyLink. Then I had to haul ass to get to my connection (sadly, we couldn't get any food--we were STARVING when we got home!!)
Yeah, Insatiable reminded me quite a bit of Twilight, too, but I like to think of it as the anti-Twilight. That is, if Twilight was actually a good book, this is what it'd be like. Personally, I thought it was a little ridiculous how Meena and Lucien were suddenly OMG IN LOVE so soon after they met (which was very Twilight of Meg Cabot to do), but hey, I can get over that. And I don't mind the love triangle, since Meena's character isn't defined by it...which is more than I can say for one miss Bella Swan. What I really liked most about it is that Meg Cabot actually acknowledged the fact that VAMPIRES WANT YOUR BLOOD. With Twilight, they make this huge deal about how Edward is such a danger to Bella, but really, you never believe it. You never actually think he's going to hurt

Yes, I did like the ending of Insatiable where Meena actually wants to stay away from Lucien even though it is tempting to take him up on his offer. I like the fact that she wants to actually do something useful with her psychic talent and make a difference, whereas in Twilight all Bella cares about is being with Edward forever and doesn't give a crap about anything else. As far as the love triangle goes, I also don't see it as she was making a choice between the two men either, she didn't choose to be with Alaric romantically, just to work with him. We know how he feels about her, but we don't really know how she feels about him other then she obviously doesn't want him to die. I think she sees him as a friend right now. I guess we'll see if that changes later. I still think I would have liked Insatiable a bit more if it stayed more tongue-in-cheek and didn't get quite so serious. I think that would have amused me more anyway. Regardless, I'm still looking forward to sequels to this one.
