Chapter 379: Surprise
Jonas: Rayna…is that…is that…your daughter?
Rayna: Of course.
Jonas: That’s really something you should have told me about before hand.
Rayna: Maybe so…but I know how you feel about these things.
Jonas: *ignores Rayna’s last comment* She's...wow…
Rayna: I know, she was a little bit of a surprise for us, too, but not a bad one. Her name is Tatiana. We call her Tati.
Bo: She is adorable!
Rayna: *smiles* Thank you.
Jonas: She is beautiful! But…
Rayna: *bracingly* What?
Jonas: Her ears are…pointy.
*Bo groans*
Rayna: I know her ears are…like that, I’m not blind!
Jonas: Sorry, I just…
Rayna: I think there are other people I’d like to see.
*Rayna walks away with Tati, the others watch her go*
*Bo stares at Jonas who is flabbergasted*
*Jonas looks at Nicholai who is staring at him, too*
Jonas: Um…did I do something wrong?
Bo: Your comment about Tati’s ears was…well…quite tactless.
Jonas: Was it?
Bo: Oh, Jonas… *she shakes her head*
Nicholai: Rayna is very sensitive about Tati’s ears. She does not like people talking about it or staring. It’s one of the reasons we decided to come home now. She thought people here would be more understanding given the…er…unusual nature of some of the people living here. Your comment was ill timed…
Jonas: *mutters* Sorry…
Nicholai: It’s of no matter, Rayna will get over it, she thinks too highly of you. Anyway, we came home to ask Sebastian about Tati’s ears. No doctor can explain it and we need another opinion…from someone who knows more about what her ears might mean about her genetic make up.
Jonas: Sebastian…are you sure it’s wise for Rayna to see him…given their past and all?
Bo: *smacking her forehead* Jonas!
Jonas: What?
Nicholai: I’m not worried about Rayna and Sebastian…at all.
*Nicholai walks away after Rayna*
Jonas: Now what?
Bo: You need some lessons in tact…immediately!

So...Rayna didn't tell Jonas because she knows how he feels about marriage and children. She didn't think he'd be excited about it for her or that he would distance himself from her. More on what he thinks about that in a later chapter. Also, Rayna very protective of Tati and her ears. I could have hid her ears behind her hair, but I love that they are pointy elf ears and she should be able to show them off with pride...I thought a little explanation of why they are that way would be nice. The answer is...they don't know why her ears look like that right now, but we'll find out more, again in a later chapter. So, this chapter is kind of stupid, I know...but Rayna and Nicholai are home! :P
