20 years later...

I was ten years old when Alba, on the 4th and 5th of November, 1994, was flooded by the waters of the River Tanaro and Torrent Tallora.
It was a Saturday, and like any other given Saturday, there was no School; both my parents were working, and my mother she was working in Ferrero, from 2 pm to 10 pm; my grandma was visiting, and looking after me and Drew for the day.
The torrent run just next to my bulding, and I looked at the waters rising the whole day from my room, sitting on the floor. It didn't stop raining the whole day, and I found it both scary and fascinating. I remember my mum arriving very late, as she had to leave the car far from home because our neighbour was already flooded; one of the guys next floor had tried to get back with his car, and he had had to leave it, and the waters had brought it away.
I remeber that day- and I remember the 5th. we used to live on the 5th floor, adn went downstairs with teh stairs, as there was no electricity; the underground garages had been filled with water, and water was almost reaching t he first floor; we had been able to leave well after ten am, when the waters were already descending a little, but both Drew and me had to go on our father's back.
I remember we passed a car while we were leaving, going out of the city for a couple of days that turned ion a couple of months. it was in the middle of a field, and there was a jacket hanging from a window. I looked at it and thought "Look, the guy left car AND jacket".
They didn't- it was actually HIS arm. He and his 23 yaers old wife- a girl my mother knew ebcause she had worked occasionally with her- were trying to escape, but the waters had catched up with them, and killed them.
Today is the 4th november, 2014. I'm 30 years old, and I'm looking at the rian outside my window.
