Ode to beauty- Luciana Littizzetto's monologue at Sanremo English Version
Do you know who’s beautiful? Jillian is beautiful the new jeans model who’s in a wheelchair. Because children with Down syndrome are children, and they are not the syndrome, and they are beautiful, because they love, laugh, dance, and some of them may even be annoying, like it happens with the people who have all the regular stuff.
And they have the right to see themselves represented in culture, show business, sport, politics… And here[…], how long before a little Seb will be featured, for example, in a Nutella commercial? Ferrero, a Down kid eating Nutella, without anyone saying the opposite! Barila, can a Down kid be part of the so-called Traditional family?
There’s a very beautiful woman in Britain, called Cherry. She presents children shows and she is great. AND she lacks one arm. Parents complained, because their children are too young to talk about handicap. And, well, I say it’s just bullshit. Because the younger they are, I think, the easier it is to make them understand things naturally. Actually, they are probably better than us to not notice too much what and who’s different.
