Atmosphere within a Cave?

Feb 12, 2006 11:55

This is a question for those who've been spelunking.
I'm aware that when one enters a deep cave the air can often be 'bad', or stifling. It can be impossible to enter some caves because they are too stuffy to breathe in. What I'm wondering is, what does that actually feel like? What does air like that smell like? How does it feel to open up a cave full of foul air?
