painting in Britain in the late 11th century

I'm writing about the daughter of the king of a semi-imaginary kingdom in northern England (Rheged, which did exist once but historically fizzled out by the seventh century.) She was born in 1066, right after the Norman invasion, and is 20 at the time of the story, her land having miraculouly avoided conquest. The culture she grew up in is basically Welsh, although it's a backwater locale and also retains traditions from earlier centuries. She's also familiar with period Welsh culture and Anglo-Saxon culture, and knows a bit about Norman culture too.

Assuming this weird hodge-podge of cultural influences, what is my character likely to know about painting as an art? Would she think of paintings or murals as a common decoration, or would she only be familiar with paint as a decorative touch on household objects? Are there any existing art objects from that period in Britain?

(If anyone has any handy links regarding life in 9th-11th century Wales, that would be cool too.)
