Medicine: futuristic/sci-fi, though not quite as advanced as the time period of the series; even within the series they couldn't repair damaged nerves/tissue from a tourniquet, for example, which required amputating

Thank you so much, your reply is very thorough and helpful. I'll definitely look into CRPS, that seems to pretty much fit my character's situation. I'm sorry you had to go through that, though! I hope your recovery is going / has gone well.
