[ANON POST] Effect of Inbreeding in Humans
Hello, I'm writing a story that takes place in a post-apocalyptic future in a not-specsific east coast city.
In my story there are two biological siblings and they have a child together. The mother and father are rather young with the father being about 16 when she's born and the mother around 13-14. The mother is in good health (no disorders or disabilities) and of normal intelligence. The father has some form of cancer (haven't decided which yet) and dies not that long after his daughter is born.
It's common knowledge that inbreeding increases the odds of birth defects and I've been trying to find out what those defects would likely be. I've found plenty of things talking about how physical health and mental capabilities are often impaired but not the specific information I'm looking for.
How plausible would it be for her to have normal intelligence?
What kinds of physical deformities or disiblilities would likely occur?
Would the age of the parents and the father's illness increase the likelihood of problems as well?
I Googled "effects of inbreeding in humans", "birth defects from inbreeding in humans" and a few other variations of that but I couldn't find what I was looking for.
