Attitudes to Homosexuality Germany, 1960s-70s

Hi all,

Background: My MC has a mom who lived/grew up in Frankfurt am Main from the mid-50s to the mid-80s, but most of her younger years are in the 60s-70s. I want to know what a possible attitude to gay people was like in that era.

I began to wonder what it was like being gay in West Germany in the 1960s-80s, generally. I get the impression that most people weren't open about it.

Questions:

How did the average, non-religious, well-educated straight person feel about gay people in that time period if the subject came up? If they knew/suspected someone was gay, were they generally accepting? Disgusted? Thought it was strange? Something else? I know it will vary between people. Are there any gay stereotypes that persist in West Germany even now that may have been common in that era?

Research: Wikipedia and Google with terms, 'being gay in West Germany in the 1960s-80s, attitudes to gay people West Germany, gay history in Germany.'

Thanks!

Edit 3: Pretty set now, thank you!
