Setting: Modern Day England/Belgium
Terms Google: Belgian Police ranks
Question:
This is less a case of me not being able to find information so much as me not being able to make heads or tails of the information I've found. I have found information on what Belgian police ranks are, but I can't figure out which rank my character would be.
I need to know what rank or position a Belgian police officer would be who investigates murders. I'm guessing he'd be a Hoofdinspecteur/Inspecteur Principal, but I don't know for sure. I'd like him to be roughly the equivalent of a British Detective Inspector, if that helps. A relatively high-ranking officer who is in charge of murder investigations.
Also if it helps, I'm trying to write a crossover than puts Hercule Poirot in the modern day. He used to be a policeman in the books before he moved to England, so I just need to know what his rank would be and how he would have been referred to or addressed in formal situations (i.e 'Inspector Poirot', 'Officer Poirot', etc.).
I do read French, so if anyone has links or information in that language, feel free to share.
ETA: Solved! Thanks everyone!
